Job summary

Apple Bengaluru is seeking an experienced infrastructure engineer to own and scale mission‑critical distributed systems. You will lead cross‑functional projects, design high‑availability databases, and mentor engineers while driving automation and reliability across complex stacks.

You will work with Go, Python, Java, and Ruby in a Kubernetes‑driven environment, contributing to architectural direction and ensuring customer‑facing performance and reliability.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in infrastructure engineering, SRE, or distributed systems.
• Proven track record leading complex cross-functional projects.
• Strong problem solving and risk assessment abilities.
• Experience scaling distributed systems in public, private, or hybrid clouds.
• Proficiency in Go, Python, Java, or Ruby.
• Solid Linux and networking knowledge.
• Experience with configuration management tools like Puppet/Ansible.
• Experience with Kubernetes, monitoring, and DR planning.

The Apple Services Engineering Infrastructure team builds the next generation of platforms that empower Apple engineers to create products our customers love. We ensure the reliability and availability of mission‑critical services like iCloud, Maps, Apple Music, Apple TV+, Podcasts, and the App Store, enjoyed by billions of users worldwide. We manage massive‑scale NoSQL and distributed database systems, and we're looking for an advanced engineer who can independently take ownership of complex problems, drive cross‑functional solutions, and contribute to the technical direction of the team.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of complex, ambiguous technical problems and independently drive scalable, reliable solutions with minimal guidance.
• Lead and contribute to complex cross‑functional projects, providing technical direction and aligning solutions with business objectives.
• Design, develop, and operate highly available, high‑performance distributed database systems at massive scale.
• Serve as a technical domain expert—identifying quality improvements, establishing efficient workflows, and mentoring junior engineers through targeted coaching.
• Drive automation of operational workflows and continuously improve system reliability and performance through iterative development.
• Communicate complex technical information clearly across multi‑disciplinary teams; frame issues to drive clarity, alignment, and informed decision‑making.
• May engage with external technical communities or stakeholders to drive alignment and shared understanding.
• Contribute to cross‑organization technical initiatives, expanding domain knowledge into adjacent disciplines.
• Foster a culture of engineering excellence, inclusive practices, and continuous improvement within the team.
• Ensure the customer perspective is prominently considered in all technical and architectural decisions.

Minimum Qualifications

• 8+ years of relevant experience in infrastructure engineering, site reliability engineering, or distributed systems.
• Established technical expertise with a strong track record of leading projects of significant complexity, ambiguity, and cross‑functional scope.
• Strong problem‑solving ability with sound judgment in evaluating technical risks, tradeoffs, and solution options.
• Experience managing and scaling distributed systems in public, private, or hybrid cloud environments.
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Go, Python, Ruby, or Java.
• Solid understanding of Linux operating systems, networking protocols, and infrastructure components.
• Hands‑on experience with configuration management or software delivery platforms such as Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or Spinnaker.
• Experience deploying, supporting, and monitoring large‑scale distributed services and application stacks.
• Experience with scale testing, disaster recovery, and capacity planning.
• Familiarity with microservices architecture and container orchestration with Kubernetes.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex information to diverse audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's / Master's degree in Computer Science or Similar.
• Experience with NoSQL technologies such as Apache Cassandra.
• Knowledge of infrastructure domains such as storage systems and networking.
