Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Contribute to design, solution development, strategy, and solution development.
• Perform programming, project management, and development assignments independently.

• Guide development of structured application/interface code, documentation, and user guides.
• Communicate with end users to direct software development, debugging, and testing.

Job description

• Contribute to design, solution development, strategy, and solution development as a Data Scientist
• Perform programming, project management, and development assignments independently, including complex systems work
• Identify and resolve complex application and technical problems, including off-shift and weekend support calls
• Work independently on complex systems or infrastructure components used by applications or systems
• Drive application development focused on delivering business-value features
• Mentor and assist data scientists by providing technical assistance and direction
• Establish software quality practices and habits within the team
• Identify and encourage areas for team growth and improvement
• Guide development of structured application/interface code, program documentation, operations documentation, and user guides
• Communicate with end users and internal customers to direct application software development, debugging, and testing
• Perform integrated testing and customer acceptance testing with careful planning and execution
• Perform other job duties as assigned by Caterpillar management

Requirements

• BS or MS degree in a quantitative discipline such as data science, data analytics, computer science, engineering, statistics, mathematics, finance, or another related degree
• 5+ years of overall professional experience
• 3+ years of proven experience as a Data Scientist designing and implementing data processing and machine learning frameworks
• Recent 3+ years of experience with Python and SQL
• Hands-on experience with Agents, Large Language Models, Small Language Models, Retrieval Augmented Generation, Generative AI, Natural Language Processing, and Deep Learning
