Job summary

NewsHunt, India's largest mobile news platform, is seeking an experienced Data Scientist to advance growth through quantitative analysis and scalable data engineering.

You will identify high-impact insights, define models of user behavior, build data pipelines, and advise growth teams on experiments to boost engagement with vernacular content.

Strong background in statistics, ML, SQL and working with large data sets in a startup environment is essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience solving analytical problems with statistics, ML, data mining and visualization.
• Strong familiarity with relational databases and SQL.
• Expert knowledge of R as an analysis tool.
• Experience with large data sets and distributed computing tools like MapReduce, Hive or Redshift.
• Ability to communicate complex analyses clearly.

We are looking for an experienced, passionate and talented Data Scientist to help us drive our vision for being the largest provider of vernacular content in the world.Candidates should be experienced in both quantitative analysis and software engineering.

Responsibilities

• Identify potential high-impact growth insights. Design and carry out quantitative investigations, and share back to the larger team.
• Define, develop, and maintain key models of user behavior.
• Build and maintain aspects of the data pipeline.
• Be an expert on data science and statistical methods for growth engineers. Actively advise in their experiments.
• Hone data intuition and use it to advise other NewsHunt teams on their activities.
• Create tools that benefit other data customers to share datasets, share queries, and backfill data more easily.
• Develop best practices for instrumentation and experimentation.

Requirements

• Extensive experience solving analytical problems with applied statistics, machine learning, data mining, and data visualization.
• Strong familiarity with relational databases and SQL.
• Expert knowledge of an analysis tool such as R.
• Experience working with large data sets and experience working with distributed computing tools such as MapReduce, Hive, or Redshift.
• A flexible approach that allows for results at varying levels of precision.
• Ability to communicate complex analysis in a clear manner.
• Passionate and curious about understanding user behavior.
• Comfortable within a fast-moving startup environment.
• MS or PhD in a relevant technical field, or equivalent experience.
