Job summary

Quess is seeking a data science-focused candidate for Bengaluru to explore scientific approaches for retail business problems. You will develop new algorithms and proofs of concept, and work with product teams to deploy production-ready pipelines.

The role requires 2.5+ years of PySpark or Python experience, strong SQL skills, and ML knowledge across at least two techniques such as Regression, Classification, NLP, or Recommender Systems. Familiarity with GenAI and cloud deployment is a plus.

Qualifications

• 2.5+ years of PySpark or Python experience in production systems.
• Experience writing production code with modular design, OOP, tests and error handling.
• Efficient data processing with vectorization and avoidance of row-wise operations.
• Fluency in SQL and handling both structured and unstructured data.
• In-depth knowledge in machine learning with math foundations for at least two modelling techniques (Regression, Classification, Text Mining/NLP, Recommender Systems).

Responsibilities

Job Role

• Investigate the feasibility of applying scientific principles and concepts to business problems.
• Develop new algorithms independently to solve well‑defined retail problems and improve existing algorithms.
• Work with product team to implement new modules, maintain and release production pipelines in a timely and responsible manner.
• Develop POCs based on new ideas or technology, popularize new innovations in retail and analytics with internal/external stakeholders.
• Collaborate with Data Engineering, Advisory and Product team to find scope of improvement and drive right processes.

Who are we looking for?

• Writes efficient code in PySpark or Python (At least 2.5 years)
• Experience in writing production system code (Modular code build, OOP framework, test cases, exception handling etc.)
• Efficient data processing (vectorization, avoiding row‑wise ops etc.)
• Rudimentary knowledge of asymptotic algorithm analysis
• Fluency in SQL, relational database, and non‑structured data handling (Images, text blob)
• In-depth knowledge in machine learning with mathematical foundation for any two of the following modelling techniques:
• Regression (classical; DL is a plus)
• Classification (classical & DL)
• Text Mining/NLP
• Recommender Systems

Good to Have

• Exposure to GenAI systems (LLMs, RAG, or agentic workflows) and interest in designing beyond basic use case (Situational and case‑based design thinking)
• Exposure in cloud technology and model deployment (Azure/ AWS/ GCP) theoretical background with foundational concepts of docker, CI‑CD etc., works.
• Retail Experience & Business Acumen (Even if its 30-50% of overall experience at least one retail project) Role & responsibilities
