Job summary

Sattva invites a Data Intern to join our India Data Insights group. Work hybrid (2 days in office, 3 days WFH) from Delhi or Bangalore, supporting research, analysis, and product development with public and proprietary datasets.

You will apply Excel, SQL, Python/R, and Tableau to wrangle data, perform analyses, and build visualizations that inform social impact programs and policy discussions.

Roles & Responsibilities

The Data Intern will support our research, analysis, and product development efforts by working with public and proprietary datasets to generate insights that inform strategic decisions in the development and social impact sector. Key responsibilities include:

Data Collection & Preparation

• Comfortable with Data wrangling, Data manipulation and Data cleaning as per the analytical plan using data analytical tools.
• Source, clean, validate, and manage datasets from secondary data sources like UDISE+, ASER, Ministries,World Bank, GOI portals and other public domain data relevant to development indicators.
• Support the creation of standardized data pipelines for recurring datasets, ensuring reliability and consistency in data ingestion and structuring.
• Work with team members to identify data quality issues and develop approaches to reconcile inconsistencies or gaps.

Data Analysis & Insight Generation

• Conduct descriptive and inferential analysis to surface trends, patterns, and anomalies across domains such as health, education, livelihoods, and sustainability.
• Support the generation of analytical insights and evidence to inform philanthropic and CSR programs, nonprofit strategies, and ecosystem-level studies.
• Collaborate with domain experts to interpret findings and shape data-driven narratives.

Visualization & Communication

• Design and build interactive dashboards or update existing interactive dashboards, infographics, and data visualizations using tools like Tableau or custom visual scripts in Python/R.
• Create compelling visual stories that make complex data accessible and meaningful for diverse audiences, including funders, practitioners, and policymakers.
• Contribute to the development of data-backed reports, policy briefs, and presentations, working closely with communication and strategy teams.

Tool Use & Technical Skill Development

• Apply analytical tools such as Advanced Excel, SQL, Python, R, and Tableau to perform data wrangling, statistical analysis, and visualization.
• Learn and apply best practices in data documentation, version control, and data ethics/privacy.
• Stay updated with emerging tools and techniques in data science relevant to social impact work.
