The successful candidate will ensure that enterprise data is properly owned, defined, protected, measured and used responsibly. This is a hands‑on leadership role requiring the ability to convert governance policies into practical processes, controls and measurable business outcomes.
Develop and implement the data governance framework: Design and maintain an enterprise-wide data governance framework covering data ownership, stewardship, classification, quality, privacy, access and lifecycle management. Define governance policies, standards, operating procedures, decision rights and escalation mechanisms. Establish a practical governance operating model that can be adopted by both technical and business teams.
Establish data ownership and stewardship: Identify critical data domains and assign accountable Data Owners and Data Stewards. Define clear responsibilities, approval workflows and governance forums. Conduct regular governance council meetings and track decisions, risks, and action items to closure.
Improve enterprise data quality: Define data quality dimensions, rules, thresholds and scorecards for critical data elements. Work with business and technology teams to identify root causes of data quality issues. Establish issue-management processes covering identification, ownership, remediation, validation and closure. Publish periodic data quality dashboards and improvement reports.
Build and maintain business metadata: Develop and govern the enterprise business glossary, data dictionary and critical data‑element register. Standardise business definitions across departments and systems. Support documentation of data lineage from source systems through transformation, reporting and consumption.
Ensure regulatory and policy compliance: Align data governance practices with applicable privacy, cybersecurity and industry requirements. Work with information security, legal and compliance teams to define controls for sensitive, personal, financial and confidential data. Support internal audits, customer audits, risk assessments and regulatory compliance reviews.
Govern data access and usage: Establish role‑based data‑access principles and approval processes. Periodically review access to sensitive and critical datasets. Ensure that data is used only for approved business purposes and in accordance with retention and privacy requirements.
Support analytics, AI and digital‑transformation initiatives: Ensure that data used for analytics, business intelligence and artificial intelligence is accurate, traceable and appropriately governed. Define governance requirements for AI training data, model inputs, outputs, explainability, bias, privacy and responsible use. Participate in new application, data‑platform and integration projects to embed governance controls from the design stage.
Drive adoption and governance culture: Conduct training and awareness programmes for Data Owners, Data Stewards, project teams and employees.
