Job summary

Google's Hardware Operations team maintains cutting-edge data centers and server infrastructure. As an Operations Technician, you will install, configure, test and troubleshoot hardware and server software, and participate in small project teams.

You will deploy data center infrastructure, diagnose issues, perform preventative maintenance, and work in shifts as needed to support 24/7 operations. Strong Linux and networking knowledge are essential.

Qualifications

• Diagnose and troubleshoot operating systems, computer hardware and server hardware.
• Experience with networking protocols, Linux, teamwork and operations.
• Ability to work non-standard hours, including weekends and shift-based schedules.

Responsibilities

• Deploy and operate new data center infrastructure across projects or teams (e.g. Machine Learning platforms, network architecture).
• Report issues and follow data center procedures to troubleshoot and diagnose moderately complex issues with equipment or infrastructure as they arise, and identify the resources needed to resolve identified issues.
• Diagnose, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on equipment, servers, machines, and infrastructure based on identified issues with multiple solutions, independently.
• Independently execute advanced operational procedures as part of daily work activities and follow security policies and processes.
• Work in shifts may be required to meet evolving business needs and operational schedules.

About the job

Google isn't just a software company. The Hardware Operations team is responsible for monitoring the state-of-the-art physical infrastructure behind Google's powerful search technology. As an Operations Technician, you'll install, configure, test, troubleshoot and maintain hardware (like servers and its components) and server software (like Google's Linux cluster). You'll also address the configuration of more complex components such as networks, routers, hubs, bridges, switches and networking protocols. You'll participate in or lead small project teams on larger installations and develop project contingency plans.
