Job summary

CoverSelf, a cloud-native healthcare data platform, seeks a Data Analyst Intern in Bengaluru to work with US healthcare data used for payment integrity and claims validation. You will learn how raw data from CMS and AMA is collected, cleaned, structured, and loaded into CoverSelf table formats, with training provided by the Data Management team.

This internship emphasizes hands-on Excel, SQL, and Python, data cleaning, and documentation.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing or recently completed an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in data science or statistics.
• Working knowledge of Excel (sorting, filters, lookups, pivot tables, basic formulas)
• Basic understanding of SQL (SELECT, WHERE, JOIN, GROUP BY) — or willingness to pick it up quickly
• Attention to detail and patience with careful, repetitive work
• Clear written and spoken communication
• Willingness to learn US healthcare concepts from scratch

Responsibilities

• Download and collect raw data files from CMS, AMA, and other public healthcare sources
• Clean and format data using Excel, and progressively with SQL and basic Python
• Help convert data into CoverSelf table formats
• Support monthly, quarterly, and annual industry data updates
• Maintain Industry Tables, Custom Tables, and Code Sets
• Learn the basics of US healthcare claims and their key elements, such as CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10, and modifiers
• Review simple policy and fee schedule updates with team guidance
• Participate in team discussions and document the work and steps followed

Position Overview:

The Data Analyst Intern will gain hands-on experience with US healthcare data used for payment integrity and claims validation. They will learn how raw data from public sources, including CMS and AMA, is collected, cleaned, structured, and loaded into CoverSelf table formats.

No medical coding certification, such as CPC, or prior healthcare experience is required. The Data Management team will provide training in healthcare fundamentals. We value attention to detail, confidence working with data, and a genuine eagerness to learn.

What You Will Do

Data Processing Support

• Download and collect raw data files from CMS, AMA, and other public healthcare sources
• Clean and format data using Excel, and progressively with SQL and basic Python
• Help convert data into CoverSelf table formats
• Support monthly, quarterly, and annual industry data updates

Table and Code Set Maintenance

• Assist in maintaining Industry Tables, Custom Tables, and Code Sets
• Learn effective date banding and historical data tracking
• Compare old and new file versions and prepare delta (change) summary reports

Quality Checks

• Report data mismatches to the team clearly and accurately

Learning and Documentation

• Learn the basics of US healthcare claims and their key elements, such as CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10, and modifiers
• Review simple policy and fee schedule updates with team guidance
• Participate in team discussions and document the work and steps followed

What We Expect from You:

Must Have

• Currently pursuing or recently completed an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in any Data Science or Statistics
• Working knowledge of Excel (sorting, filters, lookups, pivot tables, basic formulas)
