Data Analyst (DA)

About the Role

As a Data Analyst at NxtWave, you will play a central role in transforming complex datasets into actionable insights, enabling business teams to make data-driven decisions. You'll own end-to-end analytics processes from data extraction and modeling to insights — while aligning closely with EdTech metrics and user behavior.

We're seeking someone with drive. A quick learner who adapts fast, picks up new tools on the go, and takes ownership of getting things done. You should have a strong analytical bent paired with the curiosity to bring AI-powered thinking into your everyday analytics work.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Translate business problems into structured data analysis tasks and deliver actionable recommendations.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Product, Marketing, Engagement, and Ops) to understand needs and deliver insights.
• Empower self-serve analytics — coach stakeholders to define metrics and use AI tools like Hex to analyze independently. Your goal is to enable, not just deliver.
• Leverage Gen AI tools (Cursor, Hex, MCPs, etc.) to accelerate analysis, automate repetitive tasks, and build quick prototypes.
• Stay in sync with stakeholders — understand the goals and decisions.
• Proficiency in exploratory data analysis (EDA). Profiling datasets, spotting anomalies, and surfacing patterns.
• Design, build, and maintain dashboards for tracking critical KPIs.
• Extract, transform, and validate data from multiple sources using SQL (BigQuery). Build data models that meet business needs.
• Apply Python for automation, exploratory data analysis (EDA), and data transformation.
• Conduct statistical and trend analyses to identify opportunities and patterns.
• Design and maintain data models (staging to reporting layers) that support accurate, scalable reporting.
• Get hands-on with dbt where relevant — contributing to modular, version-controlled data models under guidance from analytics engineering.
• Own data sanity and quality for datasets your business pod owns — catching anomalies before they reach stakeholders.
• Document analytics best practices, maintain data dictionaries, and ensure standardization.
• Support forecasting models or ML-based prioritization efforts where relevant.
• Ensure timely, accurate, and high-quality data deliveries.

Skills Required

Must-Have Skills (Core, Non-Negotiable)

• Advanced expertise in SQL (BigQuery), analytical querying and query optimization.
• Demonstrated drive to learn, adapt quickly, and explore new tools independently — especially in the AI/Gen AI space.
• Ability to define the right metrics and frame sharp, drill-down questions that uncover the "why" behind the numbers.
• Proficiency in exploratory data analysis (EDA) — profiling datasets, spotting anomalies, and surfacing patterns.
• Hands-on experience with Looker Studio or equivalent BI tools.
• Strong Google Sheets skills for quick, ad-hoc analyses.
• Good understanding of statistics and ability to interpret data distributions.
• Working knowledge of data modelling concepts (dimensional modeling, staging-to-reporting layers) for BigQuery.
• Ownership mindset for data sanity — validating accuracy and catching anomalies before delivery.
• Strong communication skills and proven ability to work with stakeholders.

Good-to-Have (Growth Path Skills)

• Experience with product analytics tools (Mixpanel, GA, etc.) and analysis like feature adoption, A/B testing, cohort analysis.
• Familiarity with dbt for scalable data modeling.
• Exposure to ML concepts.

Work Experience

1-2 years of experience in the field of Analytics.
