Job description

Department: Finance.

Location: Gurugram, India.

Work Hours: Hybrid | 12:00 PM – 9:00 PM IST.

Experience: 5 – 8 Years.

Reports to: Senior Manager, Finance Business Partner – Product & Technology.

About Cvent:

Cvent is a leading meetings, events, and hospitality technology provider with a suite of solutions that help organizations manage the entire event lifecycle.

Our mission is to transform the way meetings and events are planned, executed, and evaluated globally.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a strategic, analytically strong FP&A professional to join our team as a Senior Analyst I or II (level based on experience) – FP&A, supporting the Product & Technology mini-CFO in business partnering with Cvent’s Product, Engineering, Cloud/DevOps and IT organizations.

Product & Technology is one of Cvent’s largest investment areas.

This role sits at the intersection of the product roadmap and the P&L: you will help leaders understand how engineering capacity, cloud hosting, software and tooling spend translate into product cost, margin and return.

You will help Product, Technology and Finance leaders answer the core questions: what does each product cost to build and run, what does it return, and where should the next engineering and cloud dollar go.

You will drive core planning processes – annual operating plan, rolling forecasts and monthly spend tracking – and build the financial analysis behind investment decisions, from business cases through post-investment tracking.

The ideal candidate can independently structure ambiguous problems across new datasets and stakeholders, and turn them into clear recommendations for senior leaders.

AI Overview:

AI is an integral part of how this role works.

You will use AI tools (e.g. Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude) to enhance efficiencies by automating reports, prepare dashboards for product leaders, perform spend analysis, improve forecasting accuracy, build business cases for new product development/ feature enhancements, and run scenario and sensitivity analysis, while validating outputs for accuracy.

This role involves frequent interaction with senior leaders across Product, Technology, IT, Accounting and Corporate Finance teams based in the U.S. and India.

Key Responsibilities:
  • 1. Product P&L, Planning & Spend Management (primary focus):
    • Prepare and maintain the product P&L, including monthly and quarterly refreshes, variance analysis and commentary, to inform investment and scaling decisions for each product.
    • Support the mini-CFO in translating product roadmaps and technology plans into the annual operating plan and rolling forecasts, with run-rate visibility and driver-based links between operational metrics and financial results.
    • Maintain and improve allocation methodologies for shared R&D, platform, hosting and IT costs so that product-level profitability is reliable and consistent.
    • Analyze opex and capex, and closely monitor headcount, contractor spend, software and licenses, and cloud hosting costs.
    • Develop and track key Product & Technology efficiency metrics, including:
      • 1. R&D and Tech spend as a % of revenue.
      • 2. Product contribution margin and gross margin by product.
      • 3. Cloud hosting cost as a % of revenue and unit cost (per customer / event / registrant).
      • 4. Fully loaded cost per engineering FTE and contractor mix.
      • 5. Software capitalization rate.
      • 6. Total cost of ownership (TCO) and payback on approved investments.
  • 2. Cloud Cost & Optimization:
    • Work with Cloud/DevOps teams to improve cloud cost transparency, tagging and unit economics.
    • Help leadership identify, size and deliver cost optimization opportunities across hosting, software, licenses and vendors.
  • 3. Investments & Capital Planning:
    • Build business cases, in partnership with Product and Technology leaders, for new products, feature enhancements, platform modernization and tooling – using NPV/IRR, payback and ROI, including build-vs-buy comparisons, to guide prioritization and trade‑offs.
    • Track approved investments against their business cases, including benefits realized, total cost of ownership and post-investment performance.
    • Support software capitalization and capex tracking, working with Accounting to ensure policy compliance.
  • 4. Reporting, Automation & Cross-functional Work:
    • Design and automate KPI packs, product profitability views and investment performance dashboards for leadership, and present insights confidently to non-financial and senior audiences.
    • Simplify recurring work to cut manual effort and improve accuracy, including through the use of AI tools.
    • Lead or support ad-hoc strategic projects, including integration of acquired products into the product P&L and consolidation of technology and vendor costs.
    • Extract and analyze data using tools like Adaptive Planning, Excel, BI platforms, cloud billing data and Jira.
Qualifications:
  • 5 – 8 years of experience in FP&A, business finance, or financial modelling, ideally at a technology/SaaS company or a multinational.
  • Exceptional candidates outside this range will be considered.
  • Preferred background (either path works): experience in a technology/SaaS organization either (a) in Finance partnering with R&D, Engineering, Cloud or IT, or (b) in Technology/IT finance, FinOps or cost analytics – with real exposure to how product and technology spend drives P&L outcomes.
  • CA, MBA (Finance) or CIMA preferred; a commerce, economics or engineering graduate with strong FP&A experience will also be considered.
  • Advanced Excel modelling, including P&L and scenario models, sensitivity analysis and clean, auditable model design.
  • Understanding of SaaS P&L structure and cost allocation for shared R&D, platform and hosting costs.
  • Working knowledge of software capitalization (ASC 350-40) and capex vs. opex treatment.
  • Familiarity with cloud billing and cost management (AWS/Azure cost tools, FinOps practices) is a strong plus.
  • Working knowledge of planning and BI tools such as Workday Adaptive Planning, Anaplan, Sigma, Tableau or Power BI; SQL is a plus.
  • Hands-on proficiency with AI tools (e.g. Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude) to automate reporting, perform variance and data analysis, build financial models and support research.
  • Strong data-driven mindset and the ability to structure and interpret large, imperfect datasets to generate insights.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including explaining financial results to non-finance stakeholders; proven ability to work closely with senior leaders is strongly preferred.
  • Strong drive, curiosity, and willingness to learn.
