Job summary

Dodo Payments is seeking a compliance professional to act as the compliance voice in commercial rooms, ensuring promises can be delivered and guiding onboarding for complex accounts. The role collaborates with Risk, CX, and Sales to translate policy frameworks into actionable guidance.

It is deal-facing and customer-facing, with opportunities to shape policies over time as judgment and experience grow in cross-border payments regulation.

Qualifications

  • Ability to learn a framework properly and explain it simply, live, to non-specialists.
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguous, deal-facing situations where the compliance path is not defined.
  • A commercial instinct paired with a spine; you should care about the deal movement and be willing to say no when needed.
  • Sound judgement about the limits of your authority.

Responsibilities

  • Work out the compliant path for larger and more complex accounts, consulting with Risk and obtaining sign-off.

Job description

About The Role

Dodo Payments is a merchant of record. Questions about what we can support, for whom, in which markets and on what terms come up constantly: in sales calls, in partnership conversations, and from merchants writing in to support. Today they all route to one person, which slows deals down. This role is the compliance seat in those rooms, and the compliance counterpart to the sales team. Part of the job is finding the workable path for a customer we want. The other part, equally important, is holding the line when what is being promised is not something we can deliver.

Responsibilities
  • Be the compliance voice in commercial rooms. Join sales and partnership calls where tax, compliance, acceptance or onboarding questions come up, and make sure what gets promised is something we can actually deliver.
  • Work out the compliant path for larger and more complex accounts, in consultation with the Risk function where a case turns on risk assessment, and propose the route for sign-off by the Head of Compliance & Legal.
  • Support the CX team on merchant queries touching compliance, acceptance or onboarding, so they get answered rather than escalated by default.
  • Support onboarding for complex and higher-risk merchant segments, from initial assessment through to the documentation and conditions required.
  • Translate the internal framework, meaning the MAP, our acceptance policy, risk criteria and merchant of record obligations, into answers a merchant or a salesperson can act on.
  • Build repeatable onboarding frameworks for complex and higher-risk segments, and route the genuinely novel question for a decision rather than improvising an answer.
Requirements
  • 2–4 years in policy, regulatory affairs, compliance, or a commercial role with substantial regulatory content. Policy think tanks, regulatory consulting, industry associations and in-house teams are all relevant backgrounds.
  • The ability to learn a framework properly and then explain it simply, live, to people who are not specialists and need a usable answer.
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguous, deal-facing situations where the compliance path is not already defined.
  • A commercial instinct paired with a spine. You should care whether the deal moves, and be willing to say no to a room that wants to hear yes.
  • Sound judgement about the limits of your own authority: confident answering what you know.
Disciplined About Escalating What You Do Not
  • No legal qualification required. Prior exposure to payments, fintech, or regulated or restricted categories is a strong plus.
Please Note
  • This is not a back-office or documentation-only role. It is deal-facing and customer-facing, and much of it happens live in conversation rather than in documents.
  • You will not be setting policy on day one. Acceptance positions and risk appetite are set by the Head of Compliance & Legal. Scope to shape the policies themselves opens up over time, on the strength of the judgement you demonstrate.
  • This is not merchant risk operations, AML alert review or transaction monitoring.
What Good Looks Like (3–6 months)
  • New categories and customer types unlocked for onboarding, with the case for each worked up and documented.
  • Larger and more complex accounts onboarded, with the compliance path defined before the deal closes rather than after.
  • Compliance and tax questions answered by you on the call, without escalation on anything routine.
  • Higher-dispute merchants have a consistent, repeatable onboarding path, and CX can handle the recurring queries directly.
What You Will Get Out Of It
  • A commercial seat inside a compliance function, at a merchant of record operating across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Direct customer and partner exposure from day one.
  • Practical grounding in cross-border payments regulation, card scheme rules and merchant of record structures, learned on live cases.
  • A route into shaping the policies themselves. Earned rather than given, but the person in this seat is the obvious candidate for it.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Health and accidental insurance.
  • Clear growth path based on performance.
