The CSSD Technician is responsible for the cleaning, decontamination, inspection, assembly, packing, sterilization, storage, and distribution of medical and surgical instruments and equipment. The role ensures that sterile supplies are processed safely and are available to clinical departments as required.
Receive and segregate used surgical instruments and medical equipment.
Perform cleaning and decontamination according to hospital protocols.
Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and damage.
Assemble surgical sets and prepare instruments for sterilization.
Pack and label instruments and supplies appropriately.
Operate autoclaves, ETO/plasma sterilizers, and other sterilization equipment as applicable.
Perform and document sterilization cycle monitoring and routine quality checks.
Maintain accurate records of sterilization cycles, biological/chemical indicators, and equipment maintenance.
Store sterile items properly and maintain stock rotation.
Issue sterile instruments and supplies to operating rooms and other clinical departments.
Follow infection prevention, occupational safety, and CSSD policies.
Handle contaminated materials using appropriate PPE and safety precautions.
Report damaged instruments, sterilization failures, equipment problems, or other incidents promptly.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of CSSD work areas.
Participate in audits, quality improvement activities, and staff training.
Diploma/Certificate in CSSD, Sterilization Technology, Operation Theatre Technology, or a related healthcare field.
Knowledge of infection control and sterilization practices.
Basic computer and documentation skills.
Knowledge of surgical instruments and their handling.
Understanding of sterilization and disinfection processes.
Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
