Job summary

Wise is seeking an India Chief Risk Officer to lead the risk management framework for the India region within Wise’s APAC Risk team. The role partners with regional leadership to ensure risk controls are effective and regulatory requirements are met.

You will work with product and technology teams to embed risk considerations into new products and services, manage incidents, and report to the local Board. The position demands extensive risk leadership experience and strong stakeholder engagement.

Qualifications

• Significant risk management experience in financial services or tech-enabled payments.
• Ability to translate global risk frameworks into local India requirements and controls.
• Experience engaging with regulators and managing regulatory reviews.
• Strong communication and collaboration with first-line, second-line, and product teams.

• Implement the enterprise risk management framework, risk appetite, and policies at the local level to meet regulations.
• Manage local regulatory relationships and participate in regulatory reviews.
• Lead risk and controls self-assessments with first-line functions and provide second-line challenge.
• Collaborate with product teams to embed risk insights into product changes and launches.
• Investigate incidents to determine root cause, impact, and remediation actions.
• Report risk updates to the local Board of Directors and Regional Head of Risk.
• Create risk awareness through training and regular communications to teams and audits.

Job Description

In this role as an India Chief Risk Officer in Wise’s second line Risk Management Team, you will be a key contributor in, and risk partner for the delivery of the risk management framework in India. This role is an exciting opportunity for you if you have significant risk management experience and are looking to do impactful work. The role will be under the APAC Risk team and reports to the Regional Head of Risk for South East Asia and South Asia.

Here’s what will you be doing:

• Act as the primary risk partner for the business in India, developing and executing a global risk management strategy tailored to India.
• Implement the Wise enterprise risk management framework, risk appetite, and other applicable risk policies at the local level to support India in managing risks effectively and meeting local regulatory requirements.
• Manage local regulatory relationships and engagement, representing the management during regulatory reviews around risk;
• Drive/review risk and controls self-assessments and documentation by first-line functions/risk owners, providing risk advisory and second-line review and challenge where relevant;
• Collaborate with product teams to integrate risk insights into product changes, new product launches, and address emerging risks in the region.
• Investigate incidents to determine root cause and impact, specifically regarding incidents, and supporting remediation efforts;
• Report risk updates directly to the local Board of Directors and the Regional Head of Risk;
• Create risk awareness through training and regular communications to first-line teams and supporting them in regulatory or internal audits; and
• Involvement in regional or global projects to ensure local compliance and integration with global risk toolsets.
