Job Description

As part of the Development Engineering team, the Control Software Designer designs, supports, and troubleshoots control systems for Injection Molding Machines (IMM) and mold controllers. This role operates in a fast‑paced, innovative environment and focuses on developing creative, high‑quality solutions to complex technical challenges.

Key Responsibilities/Areas of Accountability
  • Design control systems for IMM and mold controller applications including servo drive and servo‑hydraulic controls, and injection molding process control.
  • Provide functional, design specifications and validation plans for new IMM and mold controller functionality.
  • Software development of machine sequences (PLC IEC 61131‑3), process control, and human‑machine interface (HMI) in a Windows environment.
  • Troubleshoot and debug real‑time and non‑real‑time software.
  • Document software changes using resources such as TFS/VSTS and Azure DevOps.
  • Communicate design with other design groups and businesses.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Electrical & Electronics / ECE / Instrumentation / Software Engineering preferred, or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years hands‑on experience in automated control system design and troubleshooting preferred.
  • Machine design/develop with Beckhoff, Siemens, GE, ABB and Allen Bradley products background preferred.
  • PLC structured text language design and programming using IEC 61131‑3.
  • Experience in programming using C, C++, C# or other high‑level languages for HMI applications (Ruby).
  • Strong knowledge of PC‑based control systems and embedded systems.
  • Strong knowledge of control theory and model‑based design principles.
  • Knowledge of PLC’s and motion controllers.
  • Working knowledge of standard industrial communication networks and protocols such as RS232, RS485, Ethernet, CANOpen, Profibus, Profinet and EtherCAT.
  • Ability to read control circuits using Eplan as a resource.
  • Experience with Beckhoff TwinCAT3.
  • Experience designing, debugging and deploying software in VSTS development environment.
  • Experience in Agile software design process and Test Driven Development methodologies.
  • Familiarity and experience with AI and its use in software development, ideation, and the creation of tools.
  • Strong proficiency in English with effective verbal and written communication.
