Job summary

GE Vernova in Chennai region seeks an experienced controls engineer to deliver software validation for Solar and Battery energy storage projects. The role involves on-site startup, system integration, and ensuring on-time, high-quality control deliverables.

The candidate will interact with project managers and customers to finalize engineering requirements, develop training materials, and prepare installation and commissioning documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in electrical, electronic, instrumentation or controls engineering.
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in developing and implementing control software.
  • Experience with GE MarkVIe and tools: Toolbox ST, Workstation ST, Cimplicity SCADA, P80i.
  • Familiarity with OPC-UA, Modbus, CAN bus, IEC 61850 and IEC 104 protocols.
  • Experience with PLC, DCS, SCADA, SQL and Matlab/Simulink.
  • Knowledge of grid codes (Australia, UK, USA, Europe, Germany, Italy, Turkey, India) and AS/NZS safety standards.
  • Background in power generation sectors (BESS, solar, thermal, etc.).
  • Understanding of industrial networks and cybersecurity aspects.
  • Demonstrated systems integration in products and field engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver controls software validation for Solar and Battery energy storage projects.
  • Support on-site startup and integration of systems with hardware and software.
  • Track delivery status and ensure on-time, quality completion of control deliverables.
  • Interact with project managers, internal teams and customers to finalize requirements.
  • Communicate clearly with customers and stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain training materials for control systems.
  • Prepare installation, commissioning and operations documentation for GE employees and customers.
  • Design, develop and deploy control hardware configurations and communication networks.
  • Assist in problem identification and resolution for new and installed products.
  • Participate in controls design reviews, testing and software validation.
  • Work toward standardization of controls project execution and software validation.

Job Description Summary
  • As part of controls team responsible for project deliverables, controls software validation, project specific software creation, FAT, SAT, HIL, commissioning support for Solar & Battery energy storage system (BESS) projects.
  • Support on-site startup and integration of various systems to our hardware and software.
  • Track overall status of controls deliverables and complete on time with quality for the assigned projects to meet goals of the control team.
  • Have close interaction with project managers, various internal teams and customers to finalize engineering requirements with respect to contract scope and deliver the same to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Possess excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with customers with confidence and clarity.
  • Develop, improve, and administer customer overview and operational training material for the control system.
  • Work across the Hybrid engineering and services organizations to prepare documentation for installation, commissioning, and operations for use by internal GE employees and our customers.
  • Work on design, develop and deploy the control hardware configuration for each project and design the communication network, including but not limited to DI/DO, Ethernet, FO and other industrial communication etc.
  • Support problem identification and resolution of new and installed products.
  • Participate actively in controls design, Software code reviews, testing and software validation.

Required Qualification & Experience
  • Bachelor/master’s degree in electrical /electronic/instrumentation/controls engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in developing and implementing control software.
  • Experience in GE’s MarkVIe product & tools like GE’s Toolbox ST, Workstation ST, Cimplicity software (SCADA), P80i software is preferable.
  • Demonstrated Software expertise in Solar, Battery Energy storage, Plant level controls, validation and verification, formal methods, systems integration, advanced controls, or related technologies.
  • Familiarity with standard industrial protocols such as OPC-UA, Modbus, EGD, Profibus, CAN bus, IEC 61850 and IEC 104 etc.
  • Experience in PLC, DCS, SCADA, SQL and Matlab Simulink software.
  • Experience in various countries grid code compliance particularly Australian grid code, PLQ & AEMO requirements, UK, USA, European, Germany, Itali, Turkey & India grid codes.
  • Familiar with AS/NZS safety standards.
  • Worked in any power generation industry like BESS, solar. renewable, thermal, nuclear etc.
  • Experience in communication networks equipment’s functionality, Selection, Software features, Hardware & Cyber security.
  • Demonstrated implementation of controls or systems integration in products and field engineering experience.
