Job summary

Jagran New Media is seeking a senior editorial leader with 8+ years in the news/media sector and a strong command of Hindi. The role shapes education, current affairs, and GK coverage, while guiding explainers, features, and evergreen content for students and exam aspirants.

You will mentor editors, set editorial quality benchmarks, and collaborate with SEO and product teams to drive reach and engagement in a fast-paced digital newsroom.

Qualifications

• Minimum 8 years of editorial experience in the news/media industry.
• Experience with a reputed digital news organisation, newspaper, television newsroom or established media publication.
• Demonstrated experience handling Hindi news and editorial content.
• Strong exposure to Education, Current Affairs, General Knowledge or competitive-exam content.
• Experience managing or mentoring an editorial team.

Responsibilities

• Lead Hindi content strategy for Education, GK and Current Affairs.
• Plan and supervise coverage of education news, exams, results, policies, scholarships, admissions.
• Drive high-quality GK and current affairs content across national and international developments.
• Develop explainers, features and knowledge-led stories.
• Identify topics and build editorial calendars around student interest and exam cycles.
• Ensure complex developments are presented clearly in Hindi.
• Edit and review content for factual accuracy and reader value.
• Mentor writers and editors, improve newsroom processes and quality benchmarks.
• Collaborate with SEO, product, audience and editorial teams to boost reach.
• Use performance data to identify content opportunities without compromising quality.
• Take ownership of major breaking developments and ensure timely coverage.

The ideal candidate should bring 8+ years of experience in the news/media industry, strong command over Hindi, excellent editorial judgment, and a deep understanding of education, current affairs and general knowledge content.

This is a senior role that combines content strategy, editorial leadership, quality control and team mentoring. The person should be equally comfortable shaping daily news coverage and building high-value explainers, features and evergreen content for students and competitive exam aspirants.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead Hindi content strategy for Education, GK and Current Affairs.
• Plan and supervise coverage of education news, examinations, results, government policies, scholarships, admissions and institutional developments.
• Drive high-quality GK and current affairs content across national affairs, international developments, economy, science, polity, history, geography and related areas.
• Develop strong explainers, features and knowledge-led stories, going beyond routine news reporting.
• Identify emerging topics and build editorial calendars around student interest, search demand and major academic/examination cycles.
• Ensure complex developments are presented in clear, accurate and accessible Hindi.
• Edit and review content for factual accuracy, structure, language, relevance and reader value.
• Mentor writers and editors, improve newsroom processes and establish strong editorial quality benchmarks.
• Work closely with SEO, product, audience and other editorial teams to improve reach and engagement.
• Use performance insights to identify content opportunities without compromising editorial quality.
• Take ownership of major breaking developments and ensure timely, comprehensive coverage.

Required Experience

• Minimum 8 years of editorial experience in the news/media industry.
• Prior experience with a reputed digital news organisation, newspaper, television newsroom or established media publication is mandatory.
• Demonstrated experience handling Hindi news and editorial content.
• Strong exposure to Education, Current Affairs, General Knowledge or competitive-exam-oriented content is highly desirable.
• Experience managing or mentoring an editorial team is essential.

Educational Qualifications

• Graduate/Postgraduate degree in any relevant discipline.
• Candidates with academic exposure to Hindi, Political Science, History, Economics, Education, Humanities or Social Sciences will have an advantage.
• Journalism/Mass Communication qualifications may be considered, provided the candidate has substantial newsroom experience and strong subject understanding.
• Exceptional command over written Hindi, with strong grammar, vocabulary and editing skills.
• Strong news sense and editorial judgment.
• Ability to distinguish between news, explainer, feature, evergreen and exam-relevant content.
• Strong understanding of Indian education, government systems, public policy and current affairs.
• Ability to simplify complicated topics without compromising factual accuracy.
• Strong headline-writing and digital content packaging skills.
• Excellent research and fact-checking abilities.
• Leadership, communication and people-management skills.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced digital newsroom and handling multiple priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Understanding of the content requirements of examinations such as UPSC, SSC, Railways, Banking, Defence and State Government examinations.
• Familiarity with SEO, Google Discover, audience analytics and digital publishing workflows.
• Experience building editorial series or new content verticals will be an added advantage.
