Job summary

Bagchi Sri Shankara Cancer Centre & Research Institute in India seeks an experienced Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon to lead onco-reconstructive procedures, including head and neck, breast, soft tissue, and microvascular reconstructions.

Qualifications

• MBBS with MS in General Surgery; MCh or DrNB in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery.

• Significant exposure to onco-reconstruction and microvascular techniques in tertiary cancer care.

Responsibilities

• Onco-Reconstructive Surgery: complex plastic and reconstructive procedures after oncological resections.

• Multidisciplinary Tumor Board Participation: collaborate with surgical and medical oncologists for treatment planning.
• Wound & Lymphedema Management: advanced wound care and tissue defect management.

Job description

Roles & Responsibilities

• Onco-Reconstructive Surgery: Perform complex plastic, microvascular, and reconstructive surgical procedures following major oncological resections, including head and neck, breast, musculoskeletal, and soft tissue reconstructions.
• Microvascular Procedures: Plan and execute free tissue transfers, pedicled flaps, and microsurgical vessel anastomoses to restore form and function in post-cancer resection cases.
• Multidisciplinary Tumor Board Participation: Collaborate closely with surgical oncologists, head and neck surgeons, surgical mammologists, and medical/radiation oncologists in pre-operative planning and tumor boards to design comprehensive treatment paths.
• Wound & Lymphedema Management: Oversee advanced wound care, complex tissue defect management, skin grafting, and surgical intervention for cancer-related lymphedema.
• Inpatient & Post-Operative Care: Lead post-operative flap monitoring, ICU care, and rehabilitative planning to ensure flap survival and optimal functional recovery.
• Quality & Accreditation Compliance: Uphold institutional surgical safety checklists, infection control protocols, clinical documentation standards, and NABH guidelines.
• Academic & Mentorship Contributions: Train surgical residents, fellows, and specialized nursing staff in basic plastic surgical techniques, wound care, and microvascular monitoring.

Preferred Candidate Profile

• Education: MCh or DrNB in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery following an MBBS and MS in General Surgery.
• Experience: Above 5 years of post-qualification experience in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, with significant exposure to onco-reconstruction and microvascular techniques in a tertiary care or dedicated cancer hospital.
• Technical Expertise: High procedural skill in free flap transfers, pedicled flap harvests, microsurgery, and aesthetic/functional tissue restoration.
• Clinical & Soft Skills: Fine manual dexterity, strong clinical decision-making during complex multi-stage procedures, empathetic patient communication, and a strong collaborative mindset across surgical specialties.
