ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Roles and Responsibilities

• Extract relevant information from patient records.
• Examine documents for missing information.
• Assign CPT, HCPCS, ICD‑9/ICD‑10‑CM, APC, DRG and ASA codes.
• Ensure documents are grammatically correct and free of typing errors.
• Perform chart audits.
• Inform supervisor of equipment or computer program issues.
• Maintain compliance with medical coding policies and guidelines.
• Ensure codes tally with doctors’ diagnoses.
• Stay updated on new coding rules as codes change.
• Collect and distribute coding‑related information and billing issues.

Required Expertise & Qualification

• Graduation in Life Sciences or equivalent with Anatomy/Physiology as main subjects.
• 6 months to 2 years of experience as a medical coder.
• Certification: CPC, COC, CRC, CPCP from AAPC OR CCS, CCSP, CCA from AHIMA.
• Proficient computer skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Outstanding organizational skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
