Job summary

Hitachi Energy in Chennai is seeking a CAD/BIM engineer to translate electrical designs into BIM models, perform 3D simulations, and support substations engineering workflows. You will coordinate with product and manufacturing teams to refine component designs based on digital prototyping results.

The role requires 0–6 years of CAD/BIM experience, proficiency in BIM tools, and strong communication skills. Candidates should be ready to work in a dynamic, globally collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• 0-6 years of experience in CAD/BIM/engineering design.
• Proficiency in CAD tools: BIM 360, Navisworks, Microstation, AutoCAD, REVIT.
• Familiar with IEEE/IEC standards and substation design basics.
• Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Prepare BIM execution plans and project specific training documentation.
• Coordinate with consultants and internal teams for in-house BIM models (LOD/LOI 300).
• Extract clash detection reports and coordinate resolutions.
• Load project timelines/resources on BIM models and generate 3D progress reports.
• Assist BIM service provider for as-built models at project end.
• Provide technical support for BIM tools and communicate procedural changes across teams.
• Drive BIM use cases: clash clearance, 4D simulation, issue management, visualizations, asset management.
• Ensure compliance with external/internal regulations and Hitachi Energy standards.

Job description

The opportunity:

Computer Aided Design Drafting (CAD/CAM/CAE) work focuses on the documentation, illustration, and digital modelling of engineering designs and processes including: Assessing engineering requirements and translating into technical blueprints, drawings, layouts, and simulation models using CAD/CAM/CAE software or applying standard CAD/CAM/CAE techniques to digitize, edit, and revise engineering drawings of components, parts, and assemblies. Customizing CAD/CAM/CAE software to model complex or unusual designs. Creating digital proto-types and conducting design simulations for purposes of verifying reliability/safety and optimizing engineering processes. Collaborating with product/manufacturing process engineers by recommending changes to component designs based on outcomes of digital proto-typing and design simulations.

How youll make an impact

• Prepare BIM execution plans and project specific training documentation.


• Coordinating with various consultants and internal teams for developing in-house BIM models in LOD/LOI 300.

• Extracting BOQ and coordinating with business tor confirmation and loading project timelines and resources on BIM models and extracting 3D progress reports for management.

• Proficient in using BIM authoring tools to provide technical support and mentoring required to the project team and understand and ensure any changes in procedure and standards are effectively communicated to project teams, offer cross-team support.


• Coordinate and manage BIM project data sets/workflow and project set up.


• Lead and drive project related BIM use cases like: Clash clearance checks, BIM 4D Simulation, Issue management, Visualizations, Asset management, etc.


• Primary Engineering Deliverables.


• Experience in handling complete Engineering deliverables for AIS GIS projects and Exposure to International experience Standards IEC, IEEE AS Substation layouts and section drawings, Grounding system drawings, Lightning system design, drawings, Cable routings Understanding of auxiliary design aspects of substations, such as LVAC / LVDC supplies, Cable sizing, Battery Battery Charger Sizing, etc Technical data sheets verification of primary equipment.


• Knowledge of primary equipment, such as circuit breakers, disconnectors, earthing switches, instrument transformers, power transformers, etc Vendor Offer Evaluations.


• FAT / SAT of primary equipment, system as and when needed. Technical risk and opportunity assessment and validation 7Innovative ideas to reduce Engineering effort Plan, implement, review and continuously improvise quality system follow OPEX initiatives

Your background

• Bachelors Engineering (Electrical)

• Proficiency in required CAD design tools (BIM Tools, BIM 360, Navisworks, Microstation / AutoCAD, AutoCAD REVIT, 3D competence)


• Knowledge of relevant International standards ex. IEEE, IEC,etc


• Knowledge in substation tendering and project engineering activities (technical commercial
