Burns & McDonnell India (BMI) Power Global Practice is seeking a civil designer in the Mumbai Office to create 2D and 3D drawings for new and retrofit designs across various facilities. The Power Global Practice focuses on Civil Works including engineering and professional services, offering a broad range of design and project execution opportunities.
This role is part of a multidisciplinary design team at a growing company that specializes in emerging power plant‑based reciprocating engine technology adopted across the U.S. and the globe. The civil designer will work on integrated design projects within the Power Global Practice.
Role And Responsibilities
- Design civil works for power generation facilities using Autodesk AutoCAD, Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bentley MicroStation, and OpenRoad Designer.
- Create drawings for site plans, grading plans, paving plans, road and rail improvements, stormwater drainage details, erosion control plans, and other civil plans/details.
- Utilize supporting software such as Bluebeam, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Photoshop, Office 365, and Google Earth Pro.
- Apply CAD standards and best practices, and adhere to company, client, and project drafting standards.
- Use formulas, principles, and practices to produce required drawings.
- Coordinate drafting activities with other designers, drafters, and design disciplines.
- Communicate and correspond with internal design resources.
- Implement design changes and project drawing revisions.
- Maintain and deepen CAD proficiency.
- Travel to the United States as required to support project assignments and overall office needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in civil (general) engineering with at least 2 years of related experience, or a degree in drafting technology with at least 4 years of related experience, or a Diploma in civil engineering with 5 to 6 years of solid experience.
- Experience with land development, site development, and master development projects at preliminary, detail design, and final plot stages.
- Solid U.S. project experience and knowledge of local municipal or city standards; experience in other regions is beneficial.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, AutoCAD‑Civil2, Bentley MicroStation, and OpenRoad Designer.
- Intermediate knowledge of Navisworks Manage and clash analysis.
- Good knowledge of basic civil design, calculations, and design systems.
- Ability to work independently under supervision and deliver projects on time with proper QA/QC procedures.
- Strong collaborative skills with project managers, engineers, and designers in a multidisciplinary team, both locally and abroad.
- Ability to meet tight deadlines and manage time effectively.
- Attention to detail and a positive approach.
- Proficient in English written and verbal communication.
