BMW TechWorks India Private Limited, Bengaluru, invites a CI Tools Developer / CI Toolchain Development to join our Infotainment CI team. You will build and maintain Python-based tooling and services, and evolve our cloud-based CI/CD workflows for Android and Linux Yocto platforms.

The role requires strong Python expertise, Linux fundamentals, and familiarity with Zuul, Jenkins, GitHub Actions or GitLab CI, plus AWS services.

CI Tools Developer / CI Toolchain Development

Unit and team Overview

Infotainment unit is responsible for developing, maintaining and deploying BMW infotainment platform and infotainment ECUs(across multiple generations). BMW infotainment platform spans both Android and Linux (Yocto) based SW platforms that provide common automotive functions used by multiple automotive ECUs. The unit is also responsible for cross-cutting concerns of the platform, like architecture, security, stability and performance. The platform is deployed into multiple infotainment domain ECUs, ranging from headunits and rear seat entertainment systems to telematics and audio ECUs.

"CI Toolchain Development" team is specifically responsible to develop and maintain cloud-based CICD solutions used by several users to develop and deliver BMW infotainment platform & ECUs on daily basis. We use zuul-based CI for workflow and job orchestration. Business logic of the jobs are mainly python-based implementation.

Job Description

As a (Python) CI DevOps Engineer,

• You will be instrumental in enhancing and evolving our build and release pipelines.
• You will work on a CI environment building both Android and Linux (Yocto) based platforms and contribute to the architecture of the CI system and our Python tools. (Our tooling is utilized both on developers' systems and within our CI environment powered by Zuul CI.)
• You will develop and maintain Python-based tooling and services, including AWS-hosted components such as Lambda-based proxies, hosted databases and other hosted services.
• You'll be contributing to ensure the reliability and efficiency of our integration activities. We are seeking a proactive individual who can drive improvements in our setup in areas like CI performance and resource-usage optimizations, config-as-code, monitoring and alerting.

Qualifications

Basic requirements and Education

• University degree in computer science or a comparable field of study.
• Business fluent English.
• Good communication skills, including the ability to discuss technical topics with business-level stakeholders.

Required Experience and Skills

• 5+ years of experience in Python programming, with a strong track record of developing and maintaining Python-based tooling.
• Solid understanding of Linux systems with the ability to debug and resolve issues.
• Strong proficiency with Git and Git-based services (preferably GitHub or Gerrit).
• Good knowledge of at least one CI platform, such as Jenkins, Zuul, GitHub Actions, or GitLab CI.
• Strong DevOps mindset and the flexibility to balance core development activities with critical operational support.
• A proactive mindset for identifying and addressing challenges in build and release processes.

Preferred Experience and Skills

• Experience with Zuul and Ansible.
• Working knowledge of AWS services (e.g., Lambda, API Gateway, RDS/DynamoDB, S3, CloudWatch) for maintaining Lambda-based proxies, hosted databases and hosting services.
• Hands-on experience with Docker for containerization - build, optimization and maintenance of images.
• Understanding of security and compliance considerations in CI/CD context.
• Experience with Android and/or Yocto-based build and CI environments.
