Job summary

Alstom in India invites applications for a Chief Maintenance Engineer in Bhopal. You will lead project execution across depots, fleet management, and maintenance operations, coordinating with engineering, quality, EHS, sourcing and HR.

The role requires 8–10 years in railway PM, a tech background in Mechanical/Electrical/Electronics, RAMS/EHS knowledge, and strong leadership. You’ll drive troubleshooting, continuous improvement, and stakeholder engagement with customers and suppliers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Technology (Mechanical/Electrical/Electronics) is required.
  • 8–10 years of project management experience in the railway industry, with 5+ years on medium-critical projects.
  • Strong technical knowledge of locomotives, EMUs, metros and related systems (TCMS, propulsion).
  • Experience in troubleshooting, maintenance, and warranty operations in railways.
  • RAMS and EHS standards understanding; strong schematics reading skills.
  • Excellent leadership and coaching abilities; strong communication and organization.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, SAP, and planning tools (e.g., MS Project).
  • Analytical and continuous-improvement mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the execution of projects to meet contractual requirements and customer expectations.
  • Ensure QCDP (Quality, Cost, Delivery, Performance) and EHS compliance across projects.
  • Manage overall project P&L and optimize financial performance.
  • Lead and coordinate depot activities, fleet management, and maintenance.
  • Build and maintain strong internal and external stakeholder relationships.
  • Provide technical support for troubleshooting, validation, certification, and warranty operations.
  • Ensure compliance with EHS rules, quality policies, and standard processes.
  • Promote continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within the team.
  • Coach and develop team members in a collaborative environment.

You’ll play a pivotal role in driving project execution, ensuring contractual requirements and customer expectations are met while maximizing results. Day-to-day, you’ll work closely with teams across functions such as engineering, quality, EHS, sourcing, and HR, as well as external stakeholders like customers and suppliers, to oversee depot activities, fleet management, and maintenance operations.

You’ll specifically take care of leading troubleshooting efforts and ensuring fleet performance targets are achieved, but also driving continuous improvement initiatives and fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence.

We’ll look to you for:
