We are seeking a qualified Chartered Accountant (CA) with strong expertise in Direct Tax Litigation to manage and represent the company/clients in income tax assessments, appeals, and related proceedings. The role requires in-depth knowledge of Indian income tax laws, judicial precedents, and litigation procedures, along with strong analytical and drafting skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Handle income tax assessments, appeals, and reassessment proceedings before tax authorities (AO, CIT(A), DRP, etc.).
- Liaise with external counsels for matters before the ITAT, High Court, and Supreme Court.
- Prepare submissions, replies, and written statements for various tax authorities.
- Represent the organization/clients in hearings and manage correspondence with tax departments.
- Provide advisory support on direct tax implications, structuring, and litigation risk management.
- Assist in tax audits, transfer pricing assessments, and advance ruling applications.
- Review tax computations, returns, and documentation to ensure accurate compliance and minimize litigation exposure.
- Conduct research on complex tax issues, circulars, notifications, and judicial precedents.
- Maintain a repository of case laws, orders, and litigation trackers.
- Draft appeals, statements of facts, and grounds of appeal for appellate filings.
- Coordinate with internal departments (Finance, Legal, Business) to gather data and support litigation requirements.
- Engage with external consultants, tax counsels, and auditors.
- Present periodic updates and risk assessments to senior management.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Qualification: Chartered Accountant (CA) – Mandatory.
- Experience: 3–10 years of experience in Direct Tax Litigation (depending on seniority level).
- Strong understanding of Income Tax Act, 1961, Finance Acts, and relevant rules and case laws.
- Excellent drafting and presentation skills for replies, submissions, and appeals.
- Exposure to corporate tax litigation, search assessments, and international taxation is desirable.
- Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple litigation cases simultaneously.
- Proficiency in MS Office, tax databases, and ERP systems (SAP/Tally).
Preferred Background
- Experience in Big 4 firms, Tier-1 tax advisory firms, or corporate tax departments.
- Exposure to litigation strategy, settlement schemes, or advance pricing agreements (APA).
