Job description

Role Summary

This is a high-ownership role for a qualified CA with 45 years of experience who has worked across depth and breadth in the service sector as operator / auditor and is now ready to move into an operating finance role. You will be the custodian of accounting accuracy, tax compliance, and reporting discipline for the group, while working closely with the CEO's office, business teams, and external stakeholders such as banks, auditors, and consultants. The ideal candidate combines technical depth with the maturity to communicate financial matters clearly to non-finance stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
1. Accounting & Financial Reporting
  • Ensure books of accounts are maintained accurately as per Indian GAAP, with working knowledge of Ind AS applicability and disclosures relevant to the group's evolving scale.
  • Drive periodic (monthly/quarterly/annual) closing within defined timelines, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial statements.
  • Prepare and review Balance Sheet reconciliations, ledger scrutiny, and schedules supporting the financial statements.
  • Own MIS reporting timely, accurate, and insight-driven dashboards/reports for management review.
  • Support ICFR (Internal Controls over Financial Reporting) design, documentation, testing, and remediation tracking.
2. Direct Tax Compliance
  • Manage end-to-end TDS compliance (Salary and Non-Salary) computation, deposit, quarterly returns, and reconciliation with Form 26AS/AIS.
  • Prepare and file Income Tax Returns (ITR) for group entities.
  • Coordinate and manage Tax Audits (Form 3CD and annexures) with statutory/tax auditors.
  • Handle scrutiny assessments, notices, and departmental correspondence, including preparing submissions and liaising with consultants/counsel where required.
3. Indirect Tax Compliance
  • Own GST compliance across multiple state registrations monthly/annual return filings (GSTR-1, 3B, 9/9C), and timely reconciliations (GSTR-2B vs books, e-invoicing where applicable).
  • Manage Input Service Distributor (ISD) compliance and cross-charge/credit distribution mechanics across states.
  • Lead GST audits and departmental reviews; draft and coordinate responses to GST notices and queries in a timely, well-documented manner.
  • Proactively track changes in GST law/notifications/circulars and assess impact on the business.
4. Fixed Assets & Debtors Control
  • Maintain the Fixed Assets Register additions, disposals, capitalisation, depreciation (Companies Act and Income Tax), and periodic physical verification.
  • Own debtors control — ageing analysis, collections follow-up coordination, provisioning for doubtful debts, and reconciliation of client/customer accounts.
  • Work with business teams to resolve billing/collection discrepancies and tighten receivables discipline.
5. Treasury & Banking
  • Manage day-to-day banking relationships across group entities — operations, facilities, and documentation.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with loan/facility covenants, and coordinate timely submission of required certifications/data to lenders.
  • Handle Bank Guarantees — issuance, renewal, tracking of margin money/collateral, and coordination with banks and business teams on client-mandated BG requirements.
  • Support cash flow visibility and working capital coordination with the treasury/finance team.
6. Systems, Controls & Process Improvement
  • Work extensively in Tally, including cost centre–based accounting for entity/function/project-level visibility.
  • Identify and drive automation opportunities in accounting, reconciliation, and reporting processes using MS Excel and other tools.
  • Maintain documentation and audit trails consistent with best-practice control standards.
7. Team, Communication & Cross-Functional Interaction
  • Lead and mentor a small team of accounts — reviewing work, building capability, and ensuring accountability.
  • Act as a key liaison between Finance and other functions (Operations, HR, Procurement, Business Heads) to ensure smooth month-end processes, vendor/client account matters, and compliance data flows.
  • Communicate clearly and confidently with statutory auditors, tax consultants, bankers, and regulatory authorities.
  • Prepare clear, concise summaries and elevate risk areas proactively to the CFO/Controller with recommended courses of action rather than just raising issues.
Desired Candidate Profile
Experience & Background
  • Mandatory: Qualified Chartered Accountant with 4–5 years of post-qualification experience, either with a mid-sized corporate or a CA firm with strong statutory audit exposure in the service sector.
  • Solid grip on Indian GAAP; working familiarity with Ind AS.
  • Demonstrated hands‑on (not just supervisory) experience in TDS, ITR filing, tax audits, and handling scrutiny/assessment matters.
  • Practical experience with multi‑state GST compliance, including ISD, reconciliations, audits, and notice handling.
  • Experience with periodic closing, MIS, balance sheet reconciliation, ICFR, fixed assets accounting, and debtors control.
  • Exposure to banking/treasury operations, covenant tracking, and bank guarantee management is a strong plus.
Education
  • Chartered Accountant (CA) – mandatory qualification.
Key Skills & Competencies
  • Proficient in Tally (cost centre accounting) and advanced MS Excel; an aptitude for process automation will be valued.
  • Strong communication skills — able to explain financial/compliance matters to both finance and non‑finance stakeholders.
  • Prior experience managing or mentoring a small team, with a collaborative, cross‑functional working style.
  • High degree of ownership, integrity, and comfort operating in a compliance‑first, deadline‑driven environment.
Compensation & Other Details
  • CTC: [Placeholder – commensurate with experience and industry benchmarks]
  • Notice Period Preference: [Placeholder – e.g., Immediate to 30 days]
