Position Title: Senior IT Analyst (Java, Oracle, SQL Server)

Job Location: Bangalore, KA-India

Responsibilities:
Caterpillar’s India Center of Expertise (COE) is seeking an individual to assist with designing, developing, and managing Database structures (ERDs), data load/extraction processes development, Database/SQL performance tuning, and consulting with application development teams that are critical to the business. Incumbent is responsible for delivering and maintaining the database layer of the applications, working cohesively with other database developers, business/application SMEs, and .NET/Java development teams across multiple segments/divisions within Caterpillar enterprise.

The ideal candidate must be a self-starter capable of thinking with an enterprise perspective while still being flexible enough to keep the business/applications running efficiently. Incumbent works closely with segment/business users (product owners) and Security/Infrastructure/AppDev COE teams (Global Information Services). Incumbent will own/help troubleshoot database issues with various applications built using Java, .NET. Incumbent will be involved in on-call and day-to-day incident ticket response activities and provide database/application support. Incumbent will identify opportunities to automate and develop automation solutions to streamline operational tasks.

Job duties/Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Responsible for all aspects of backend (database) design and development in close collaboration with the Development Team and Business Process SMEs.
  2. Analyze user requests and software requirements for feasibility of design and potential impact.
  3. Write/maintain SQL and PL/SQL stored program units/packages.
  4. Understand and lead the team in database related security/infrastructure upgrade requirements.
  5. Understand and lead the team in maintaining database naming and coding standards.
  6. Participate in code reviews and ensure the code written complies with best practices and provides improvement feedback to developers.
  7. Support Technical and Business teams in problem identification and resolution including off-shift and weekend support functions.
  8. Assist team and customers with documentation, training, and usability efforts.
  9. Work with System DBAs for overall Database performance improvements and efficient data processing activities.
  10. Adhere to Security directives and enable security concepts in application lifecycle, vulnerability remediation processes and minimize overall risk for the enterprise.
  11. Competent to perform all programming, project management, and development assignments without close supervision; normally assigned the more complex aspects of systems work.
  12. Work directly on complex application/technical problem identification and resolution, including responding to off-shift and weekend support calls.
  13. Drive database development/support focused around delivering business valuable features.
  14. Manage better data quality by establishing good practices and habits.
  15. Identify and encourage areas for growth and improvement within the team.
  16. Perform other job duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time to time.

Required skills:

  1. Relational databases and concepts, preferably Oracle.
  2. Data Modeling and data analysis skills.
  3. Oracle SQL and Oracle PL/SQL, Object Oriented Analysis and Design, creating database tables, views, create and maintain PL/SQL objects like Packages, Procedures and Functions etc., using advanced PL/SQL programming techniques.
  4. Designing and implementing logical and physical database models with an in-depth knowledge of concepts such as indexes, primary keys, foreign keys, and constraints.
  5. Fine tuning SQL queries and improving application performance.
  6. Using Oracle development tools such as SQL Plus, SQL Developer for programming and maintaining applications.
  7. Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) techniques.
  8. Oracle’s JSON format.
  9. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills in independent and team settings.
  10. Strong collaboration and communication skills.
  11. Ability to work well with a geographically distributed team.
  12. Ability to quickly learn modern technologies and apply them with an enterprise perspective.
  13. Ability to act in a self-directed manner, independently researching and learning tools/libraries/technologies or solving a problem with minimal oversight and instructions.
  14. Excellent communication skills (in English) to work with global matrix team.

Desired Skills:

  1. Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) understanding.
  2. Enterprise and Technical Architecture understanding.
  3. Data Services Domain areas such as Denodo, DataPower, and Snowflake.
  4. Understanding of Project Management fundamentals.
  5. Familiarity with web development in either Java or .NET.
  6. Familiarity with two or more of Databases – SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, DB2, etc.
  7. Familiarity with JavaScript, HTML5, CSS, Web Services, Windows PowerShell, etc.
  8. Experience with ITSM process.
