About the Opportunity
Healthcare — Eye Care / Ophthalmology sector delivering comprehensive clinical and surgical ophthalmology services to patients across the Mathura region. We are recruiting an on-site Consultant Ophthalmologist specializing in cataract surgery (phaco) to join a high-volume clinical practice in Kalyanam Karoti, Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. This role focuses on delivering excellent surgical outcomes, patient counselling, and participation in community outreach.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Perform high-volume cataract surgery (phacoemulsification) and small-incision cataract surgery (SICS), including complex cases and premium/IOL implantations, ensuring optimal refractive outcomes.
  • Conduct comprehensive pre-operative assessment: slit-lamp exam, biometry, OCT interpretation, risk stratification, and informed consent/counselling for patients and families.
  • Provide structured post-operative care: monitor recovery, manage complications, perform YAG capsulotomy and secondary procedures when indicated.
  • Maintain accurate surgical logs and outcome audits; analyse refractive results and drive quality-improvement initiatives to reduce complications and improve visual outcomes.
  • Lead and mentor junior surgeons, optometrists, and theatre staff; organise surgical lists, maintain OT efficiency, and support community cataract screening camps.
  • Ensure strict adherence to infection control, sterilisation protocols and safe operation/maintenance of phaco machines and microscopes.

Skills & Qualifications

Must-Have

  • MBBS with MS/DO (Ophthalmology) or equivalent and valid registration with Medical Council (state/MCI).
  • Demonstrated competency in phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation with a proven surgical record.
  • Proficiency in slit-lamp biomicroscopy, ocular imaging (OCT) and biometry (IOLMaster/Lenstar).
  • Experience managing intra- and post-operative complications and performing YAG capsulotomy.

Preferred

  • Fellowship or advanced training in cataract/Anterior Segment surgery or recognized short-term phaco training.
  • Experience in community outreach/cataract camps and familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) for ophthalmology.
