Job summary

Toprankers Udaan is hiring a Career Counsellor to guide students and families through assessment, counselling and placement-readiness activities. You will conduct in-person sessions, parent interactions, and group activities to help students choose appropriate career paths.

The role requires empathy, strong communication, and the ability to work with diverse social and economic backgrounds. Travel within and outside city/state is expected.

Qualifications

• 1–5 years of relevant counselling/teaching experience.
• Experience in rural and urban teaching is compulsory.
• Willingness to travel inside and outside city/state.

Responsibilities

• Conduct scientific aptitude and personality assessments for students using prescribed frameworks.
• Understand students' interests, aspirations, strengths and challenges.
• Conduct 25–30 minute one-on-one career counselling sessions.
• Help students understand career paths, education opportunities and entrance exams.
• Identify students needing additional counselling or intervention.
• Maintain detailed counselling notes and records.
• Engage parents through telephonic/online interactions to discuss career plans and opportunities.
• Coordinate with placement teams for students requiring support.
• Lead group counselling sessions on communication, workplace etiquette, emotional regulation, gender sensitivity, financial literacy and employee rights.
• Prepare students for workplace expectations and first 30 days of employment.
• Provide post-placement support including follow-ups and crisis counselling when required.

• Employment Type: Full Time, On Contract (October 2026 start - March 2027 end) with possibility of converting into Permanent
• Proficiency In: English (Spoken & Written), Hindi (Spoken & Written), and State's Language (Spoken & Written) - Marathi, Kannada, Telugu, Gujarati, and Tamil according to state compulsory.
• Degree Preference: BA/B.Sc. In Psychology or MA/M.Sc. In Psychology or BA (Sociology)/BSW/BA (Social Work) or MA (Sociology)/MSW/MA (Social Work) or LLB from an NLU

About the Role

Toprankers Udaan is implementing a large-scale Career Guidance & Counselling Program aimed at helping school & ITI students make informed career decisions and become better prepared for higher education, employment, and the workplace.

As a Career Counsellor , you will work directly with students and their families and become an important part of their career journey. The role involves conducting offline, in-person - assessments, one-on-one career counselling, parent interactions, group sessions, special-case interventions and placement-readiness activities.

The ideal candidate should genuinely believe that every student has the potential to build a successful career when provided with the right guidance, exposure and support.

The role is particularly suited for someone who enjoys working with young people, is comfortable working in diverse social and economic environments, and can combine career knowledge, counselling skills, empathy and strong communication .

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct scientific aptitude and personality assessments for students using the prescribed assessment framework.
• Understand students' interests, aspirations, strengths, challenges and career expectations.
• Conduct structured one-on-one career counselling sessions of approximately 25–30 minutes.
• Help students understand suitable career pathways, educational opportunities, entrance examinations, skill requirements and employment options.
• Identify students who require additional counselling or intervention.
• Maintain detailed and accurate counselling notes and student records.

The program categorises students into Ready, Needs Support and High-Risk segments, with the level of intervention tailored accordingly.

2. Parent Engagement

• Conduct telephonic / online interactions with parents and guardians.
• Explain students' career plans, apprenticeship and employment opportunities and relevant workplace expectations.
• Address concerns related to career choices, mobility, workplace safety and other family-level barriers.
• Build trust and secure parental support for students' career and placement decisions.

3. Special-Case & Home Interventions

• Identify students showing signs of placement resistance, dropout risk or other significant barriers.
• Participate in home visits wherever required.
• Understand the student's family and social context and provide appropriate counselling and reassurance.
• Coordinate with the relevant project / placement team for students requiring additional support.

4. Group Career Counselling & Skill Development

• Conduct engaging group sessions using activities such as discussions, storytelling, roleplays and reflection exercises.
• Facilitate sessions on:
  • Communication and workplace etiquette
  • Emotional regulation
  • Gender sensitivity
  • Financial literacy
  • Employee rights
  • Workplace expectations
• Ensure sessions are interactive, practical and relevant to students from diverse backgrounds.

The program specifically includes group counselling around communication, workplace etiquette, emotional regulation, gender sensitivity, financial literacy and employee rights.

5. Placement Readiness

• Conduct / support placement-readiness sessions along with the placement team.
• Prepare students for workplace expectations and their first 30 days of employment.
• Help students understand professional behaviour, conflict resolution, help-seeking mechanisms and available support systems.
• Address concerns that may affect students' transition from education to employment.

6. Post-Placement & Crisis Support

• Stay connected with students during the initial period after placement.
• Conduct scheduled check-in calls and monitor students' adjustment to the workplace.
• Identify and flag potential risk situations.
• Provide first-level listening and counselling support in situations involving distress, workplace difficulties, harassment or unsafe conditions.
• Refer cases to appropriate mental-health professionals wherever required.
• Conduct follow-ups for high-risk students as per the prescribed process.

The program provides for post-placement check-ins during the first 30 days and structured crisis counselling with escalation / referral mechanisms when required.
