Job Description: Canva Template Designer / Production Specialist
Department: Creative Operations / Design Production
Employment Type: Contract / Project-Based
Experience: 35 years preferred
Work Mode: Remote / Hybrid
Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Canva Template Designer / Production Specialist to support a large-scale migration of existing marketing and brand collateral into editable Canva templates.
The project involves reconstructing flattened PDF designs originally created in publishing platforms into fully editable, native Canva templates while preserving the original design, typography, colors, dimensions, layouts and individual brand identities.
This is primarily a template reconstruction and production role, not a brand redesign or conceptual creative design position.
The selected candidate will work with existing design references, brand guidelines, logos, fonts and approved assets to create high-quality, reusable Canva templates.
Key Responsibilities
1. PDF-to-Canva Template Reconstruction
- Recreate existing flattened PDF designs as native, fully editable Canva templates.
- Maintain original design layouts, dimensions, page count, page sequence, colors and typography.
- Ensure text, images, shapes, graphic elements and other components remain editable wherever required.
- Reconstruct single-page and multi-page marketing collateral.
- Ensure templates are organized for future editing and reuse.
2. Brand Guideline Compliance
- Follow individual brand and team guidelines without deviation.
- Use approved logos, fonts, colors, images and graphic assets.
- Maintain brand consistency across all marketing materials.
- Never substitute fonts, modify logos or redesign existing creative without written approval.
- Identify missing fonts, assets or brand references and escalade them before proceeding.
3. Canva Template Development
- Create editable templates using Canva's native design capabilities.
- Set up editable text fields, locked elements, image frames and reusable components.
- Implement variable-data structures and smart fields wherever applicable.
- Prepare templates for downstream data-field mapping.
- Follow prescribed naming conventions, folder structures and access permissions.
4. Quality Assurance
- Perform quality checks on every completed template before submission.
- Compare reconstructed designs against original PDF references.
- Check typography, spacing, alignment, dimensions, image quality and page sequence.
- Validate PDF exports and print readiness.
- Ensure all required elements are editable and appropriately locked.
- Identify and resolve production defects before review.
5. Production Tracking and Delivery
- Work according to approved production batches and delivery schedules.
- Maintain daily production trackers and report completed pages.
- Track submitted, corrected and accepted templates separately.
- Meet agreed weekly production targets.
- Incorporate feedback and complete required corrections within agreed timelines.
- Maintain organized Canva links and supporting export files.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- 3–5 years of experience in graphic design, Canva design or creative production.
- Strong hands-on expertise in Canva, particularly Canva's native template-building features.
- Experience converting PDF designs into editable digital templates.
- Strong understanding of typography, layouts, grids, alignment and print specifications.
- Experience working with multiple brand guidelines and brand-specific design systems.
- Ability to work with custom fonts, logos, image assets and other brand resources.
- Experience creating multi-page brochures, flyers, presentations, marketing collateral and other print/digital materials.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify visual inconsistencies.
- Ability to work with high-volume design production and tight deadlines.
- Good communication, documentation and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Marq (formerly Lucidpress) or similar publishing platforms.
- Experience migrating designs from Adobe InDesign, Illustrator or other design applications into Canva.
- Knowledge of Canva Bulk Create, data-driven templates and dynamic content workflows.
- Experience working on real estate marketing collateral, agent branding or franchise-based brand systems.
- Understanding of print production, PDF export settings, bleed and crop marks.
Expected Deliverables
The candidate will be responsible for producing:
- Fully editable Canva templates.
- Accurate recreation of supplied PDF designs.
- Multi-page templates with correct page ordering.
- Templates with appropriate editable and locked elements.
- Correctly configured image frames and variable-data fields.
- Print-ready PDF exports where required.
- Organized Canva folders and shareable template links.
- Quality-check reports and defect logs.
- Production status updates and delivery trackers.
