The Group

The Index business leverages Morningstar's intellectual property to create indexes that empower investors to achieve their goals at every stage of the investment process—market monitoring, benchmarking, and asset allocation. The unit offers a broad suite of global equity, bond, and asset allocation indexes. Through an internal technology platform, Morningstar Indexes provides portfolio maintenance, calculation, and data distribution services to the asset management industry.

The Role

The Morningstar Index team is looking for an execution-focused Business Analyst to collaborate on the execution of the technology roadmap to drive revenue growth and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will have familiarity with the financial services industry, particularly in portfolio construction, calculation, or data dissemination. We are in search of a results-oriented professional who can thrive in a highly collaborative, Agile software development environment. In this role, you will support the technology platform and team by analyzing data, identifying insights, eliciting requirements, and providing actionable recommendations. Along with this, the candidate will be expected to develop a deep understanding of the user and business requirements and support in performing UAT testing for any impending product releases.

Shift: General

Responsibilities
  • Support the execution of the technology roadmap from requirements elicitation through execution of the complete software development lifecycle, working with development squads dedicated to architecting and implementing enhancements to the Morningstar Index technology platform.
  • Utilize investment acumen and industry knowledge to lead data analysis efforts, identifying trends, patterns, or anomalies to inform the technology roadmap and requirements process. Present data analysis insights on dashboards to aid functional teams in prioritization.
  • Collaborate closely with the lead product owner and engineering teams to ensure timely and high-quality delivery of product features and enhancements.
  • Identify opportunities for efficiency gains and cost savings by analyzing business processes and workflows.
  • Develop and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and metrics of product success related to platform performance to inform the prioritization process.
  • Prepare and deliver findings, insights, and recommendations to stakeholders across all organizational levels.
  • Support the engineering squads within the Agile software development framework.
Requirements
  • A minimum of a bachelor7s degree.
  • Understanding of SQL, Python, Relational Databases, or dashboarding software like Tableau or Power BI is preferred.
  • 0-2 years of product management or business analysis experience.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and planning skills, and the ability to excel in a fast-paced environment while delivering high-quality work.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into actionable product requirements.
  • Experience with Agile software development and technical acumen is preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and passion for investments, including stocks, indexes, funds, and ETFs is preferred.
  • Self-directed and detail-oriented.
