Job summary

Amentum is seeking a Marine Engineer to support a unique US Navy program on the island of Diego Garcia. The role covers design, analysis, construction support, maintenance, and repair of marine vessels and systems, with compliance to standards and contractual requirements.

The candidate will work in a multidisciplinary environment, applying knowledge of structural, mechanical, and electrical systems, and must have travel ability and a valid passport to support international assignments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum of 4 years in marine engineering or related field.
• Experience using AutoCAD, Rhino 3D, SOLIDWORKS or similar software.
• Working knowledge of marine automation systems (HMI and PLC).
• Strong understanding of marine structural, mechanical, and electrical principles.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
• Must possess a valid passport and be able to travel internationally.
• Passport valid for at least 1 year at hiring.

The Marine Engineer will be responsible for the design, analysis, construction support, maintenance, and repair of marine vessels and systems. Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering field.
• Minimum of four (4) years of experience in marine engineering or a related field.
• Experience using engineering design software such as AutoCAD, Rhino 3D, SOLIDWORKS, or similar applications.
• Working knowledge of marine automation systems, including HMI and PLC control systems.
• Strong understanding of marine structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering principles.
• Excellent analytical, problem solving, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to prepare technical reports and engineering documentation.
• Must be in possession of a valid passport and be able to travel internationally.
• Passport must be valid for a minimum of one (1) year or more at the time of hiring.
• Ability to obtain country-specific visas per the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.
• Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance throughout the duration of deployment.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
• Must be able to speak, read, and comprehend English.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience working in an austere OCONUS (Outside the Continental United States) environment with a multi-national workforce
• A valid driver's license to legally operate a motor vehicle. Valid country driver's license. and passport.
• U.S. Coast Guard Engineer License.
• Professional Engineer license or certification.
• Experience with integrated mechanical, electrical, automation, and software engineering processes.
• Familiarity with Hull, Mechanical & Electrical systems.
• Experience supporting naval vessel construction, modernization, or repair programs.
• Strong customer service, leadership, and project management skills.

Working Environment

This position is located on Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT), a remote overseas location supporting U.S. Government operations. Employees may work in office, industrial, warehouse, port, airfield, and outdoor environments and may be exposed to high temperatures, humidity, inclement weather, noise, dust, and uneven terrain. Work schedules may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on operational requirements.

Physical Requirements

Requirements may include prolonged sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and 50 pounds occasionally, and working in both indoor and outdoor environments. Must be able to meet all medical, security, and deployment requirements associated with assignment to a remote overseas location.
