Lead optimization activities to improve productivity, efficiency and delivery performance, while mentoring junior engineers and collaborating with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Job Description Discrete Event Simulation (DES) Engineer / Lead

We are looking for an experienced Discrete Event Simulation (DES) Engineer/Lead responsible for developing, optimizing, and delivering simulation models for manufacturing and production processes. The role involves modelling complete process flows from concept through programme delivery, performing bottleneck and throughput analysis, and supporting manufacturing optimization initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver Discrete Event Simulation (DES) models from initial concept through detailed programme simulation.
• Create simulation models that accurately represent manufacturing and production process flows.
• Lead system optimization activities to improve productivity, efficiency, cost, quality, and delivery performance.
• Conduct bottleneck analysis and recommend strategies to eliminate production constraints.
• Perform volume throughput studies and what-if scenario analysis to evaluate manufacturing capacity and operational parameters.
• Optimize simulation models for different product/vehicle derivative mixes.
• Support Build-to-Sequence (BTS) and vehicle sequencing requirements.
• Work closely with design, manufacturing engineering, production, layout, maintenance, and scheduling teams.
• Ensure DES models meet defined programme KPIs and performance targets.
• Apply Lean tools and techniques for continuous improvement and process optimization.
• Present simulation results, recommendations, and project progress during design and programme reviews.
• Support continuous development of simulation tools and methodologies to improve model quality and robustness.
• Lead projects and coordinate activities with relevant stakeholders.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and graduates.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Strong hands‑on experience in Discrete Event Simulation (DES).
• Experience with Siemens Tecnomatix Plant Simulation and/or Lanner WITNESS.
• Strong experience in production process flow simulation within a manufacturing environment.
• Hands‑on experience conducting bottleneck analysis using DES models.
• Experience in throughput, capacity, and what‑if analysis.
• Proven experience delivering DES projects against defined KPIs and programme targets.
• Experience working within production/manufacturing sites.
• Strong understanding and practical application of Lean Manufacturing tools and techniques.
• Experience solving complex manufacturing and technical system problems.
• Project and people management capabilities.
• Good communication and presentation skills, including presenting complex technical information to senior stakeholders.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.
• Strong team player with experience supporting and developing team members.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.

Education

• Relevant Engineering degree or equivalent professional experience preferred.
