Job summary

Alignerr is seeking PhD-level biochemists for a fully remote, hourly contract role that shapes AI reasoning in protein folding, metabolism, and enzymology. You will design challenging problems and author ground-truth solutions to benchmark AI performance.

In this role, you will audit AI outputs, identify reasoning errors, and provide structured feedback to improve AI thinking, collaborating with a global expert community for ongoing work and contract extensions.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Author precise, step-by-step ground-truth solutions used as benchmarks for AI reasoning.

This is a fully remote, flexible contract role where your scientific knowledge directly shapes how AI reasons about protein folding, metabolic flux, enzyme kinetics, and beyond. No AI background required — just deep domain expertise and a sharp analytical mind.

What You'll Do

• Design Challenging Problems — Craft advanced biochemistry problems spanning nucleic acid chemistry, proteomics, structural biology, and drug-target interactions to rigorously test AI performance
• Author Ground-Truth Solutions — Develop precise, step-by-step technical solutions that serve as benchmarks for high-level scientific reasoning in AI systems
• Audit AI Outputs — Evaluate AI-generated biochemical pathways, molecular structures, and mathematical reasoning for technical accuracy and adherence to scientific standards
• Identify and Fix Reasoning Errors — Spot logical flaws like incorrect stoichiometry, misapplied stereochemistry, or flawed mechanistic reasoning, and provide structured feedback to improve AI thinking

Who You Are

• PhD-level expertise in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a closely related field (completed or in final stages)
• Strong foundational knowledge in areas such as structural biology, enzymology, cellular metabolism, or bioinformatics
• Ability to communicate highly technical concepts clearly and concisely in written form
• High attention to detail when reviewing chemical equations, molecular diagrams, and experimental logic
• No prior AI experience required — we'll provide everything you need to get started

Nice to Have

• Experience with data annotation, evaluation, or quality assurance workflows
• Familiarity with computational biochemistry tools such as PyMOL, AlphaFold, or BLAST
• Background in scientific writing, peer review, or technical editing
