Job description

Responsibilities
  • Install and set up Linux and Windows systems and servers for organization-wide setup.
  • Set up the architecture of the system, including back-end databases and scripts for specific applications and use cases for the organization.
  • Install, maintain, and debug applications such as Apache Tomcat, Apache, PM2, NGINX, and PostGresDB.
  • Troubleshoot problems, configure hardware and software, implement backup processes, and assess systems for upgrades or replacement.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software errors by running diagnostics, documenting problems and resolutions, prioritizing problems, and assessing the impact of issues.
  • Maintain internal infrastructure requirements including laptop and desktop computers, servers, routers, switches, firewalls, printers, phones, and security updates; support internet, intranet, LANs, WANs, and network segments.
  • Evaluate technology alternatives and vendor products.
  • Manage incidents and perform root cause analysis.
  • Perform routine system maintenance and resolve issues.
  • Review error logs and reported errors and seek out solutions.
  • Monitor system performance to prevent slowdowns and crashes.
  • Examine daily traffic logs and reports or receive direct reports from end users.
  • Develop and deploy solutions to ensure the system remains usable for all personnel.
  • Assess and implement security programs, install and manage these systems, conduct updates, create passwords, and run checks for viruses and spyware.
  • Perform server administration tasks, including user/group administration, security permissions, group policies, print services, research event log warnings and errors, and resource monitoring, ensuring system architecture components work together seamlessly.
  • Provide documentation and technical specifications to IT staff for planning and implementing new or upgraded IT infrastructure.
  • Manage periodic reporting on progress to management and customers.
  • Perform routine/scheduled audits of the systems and servers, including backups, security, and performance.
  • Perform regular backup operations (Daily, Weekly) and implement appropriate processes for data protection, disaster recovery, and failover procedures.
Requirements
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, System Administration, or a closely related field, or equivalent experience required.
  • 2-5 years of database, network administration, and system administration experience.
  • System administration and IT certifications in Linux, Windows, or other network-related fields are a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of systems and networking software, hardware, and networking protocols.
  • Experience with scripting and automation tools.
  • A proven track record of developing and implementing IT strategy and plans.
  • Strong knowledge of implementing and effectively developing helpdesk and IT operations best practices, including expert knowledge of security, storage, data protection, and disaster recovery protocols.
