Job summary

Sigma Earth is seeking a seasoned Product Lead for utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). You will define the product vision, build a roadmap for containerized BESS from 250 kWh to 10+ MWh, and guide PCS/inverter platforms.

The role spans market analysis, technology selection, and cross-functional leadership across R&D, manufacturing, and sales to deliver competitive, safe, and cost-effective energy storage solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical/Electronics/Power Electronics.
• 5–15 years of relevant industry experience in BESS or utility-scale energy storage.
• Hands-on experience with containerized BESS (1 MWh to 5 MWh) preferred.
• Strong knowledge of battery chemistries (LFP, NMC, sodium-ion) and battery technology.
• Experience with system integration and grid code compliance.

Responsibilities

• Define product vision and strategy for utility-scale and industrial BESS, including AC/DC/hybrid ESS solutions.
• Develop and manage long-term product roadmap for containerized BESS, PCS, and inverter platforms (250 kWh to 10+ MWh).
• Analyze market trends, battery tech, and industry developments (LFP, 2P/3P, cooling, fire safety).
• Establish product differentiation by optimizing cost, safety, energy density, lifecycle, and digital integration.
• Coordinate cross-functional development across electrical, mechanical, thermal, firmware, software, and EMS teams.
• Lead compliance with UL 9540/1741/1973, IEC 62933, IEEE 1547, BIS, and other standards.
• Work with procurement to optimize bill of materials and manufacturability.

Key Responsibilities

Product Strategy & Roadmap

• Define the product vision and strategy for utility-scale and industrial Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), including AC-coupled, DC-coupled, and hybrid ESS solutions.
• Develop and manage the long-term product roadmap for containerized BESS solutions ranging from 250 kWh to 10+ MWh, along with Power Conversion System (PCS) and inverter platforms.
• Analyze global and domestic market trends, emerging battery technologies, and industry developments, including LFP cells, 2P/3P configurations, liquid cooling systems, and advanced fire safety solutions.
• Establish product differentiation by optimizing cost, safety, energy density, lifecycle performance, and digital integration capabilities.
• Conduct market sizing, Total Addressable Market (TAM), Serviceable Available Market (SAM), and customer segmentation analyses across utilities, Independent Power Producers (IPPs), commercial & industrial (C&I), and microgrid sectors.

Product Development & Technical Leadership

• Develop Product Requirement Documents (PRDs) and comprehensive system specifications for:
  • Battery packs, racks, and container architecture
  • PCS and inverter systems
  • HVAC and thermal management solutions
  • Fire Detection and Suppression (FDS) systems
  • Battery Management System (BMS) and Energy Management System (EMS) integration
  • Electrical protection, grounding, and grid code compliance
• Define key product performance metrics, including round-trip efficiency, battery degradation, system availability, lifecycle performance, and operational expenditure (OPEX).
• Collaborate with R&D teams on battery cell selection, system topology, control algorithms, thermal management, and safety engineering.
• Coordinate cross-functional development activities involving electrical, mechanical, thermal, firmware, software, and EMS engineering teams.
• Lead compliance with international and regional standards, including UL 9540, UL 1741, UL 1973, IEC 62933, IEEE 1547, BIS, and other applicable certifications.

Supply Chain & Manufacturing Support

• Work closely with procurement and supply chain teams to evaluate and select battery cells, racks, PCS equipment, cooling systems, and auxiliary components.
• Drive product manufacturability, configuration standardization, value engineering, and cost optimization initiatives.
• Lead product launch activities, pilot installations, field trials, and commercial deployment of new BESS solutions.
• Develop technical documentation, including datasheets, installation manuals, operating guides, and product specifications.
• Deliver technical training programs for sales teams, service engineers, EPC partners, and channel stakeholders.

Product Lifecycle & Continuous Improvement

• Monitor product performance using operational data, analytics, and customer feedback to identify improvement opportunities.
• Lead cost-reduction initiatives through optimized cell sourcing, cooling system redesign, cabinet and container engineering improvements, and component standardization.
• Manage product lifecycle activities, including end-of-life (EOL) planning, component upgrades, and next-generation product development.
• Drive innovation initiatives involving advanced cooling technologies, modular PCS architectures, sodium-ion battery readiness, and other emerging energy storage technologies.

Customer & Business Engagement

• Build and maintain strong relationships with customers across utilities, Independent Power Producers (IPPs), commercial & industrial (C&I), and microgrid segments.
• Collaborate with developers, consultants, EPC contractors, and customers to support system design, product evaluations, technical proposals, and engineering clarifications.
• Provide technical expertise throughout the project lifecycle, from solution design and bid support to customer presentations and project execution.

Preferred Experience

• Hands‑on experience with containerized Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) ranging from 1 MWh to 5 MWh or larger utility-scale installations.
• Strong knowledge of battery chemistries, including Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP), Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC), sodium‑ion, and emerging battery technologies.
• Experience with grid‑scale BESS applications such as peak shaving, energy arbitrage, frequency regulation, load shifting, backup power, and black‑start capability.
• Practical experience in BESS commissioning, laboratory testing, system validation, or field performance evaluation.
• Experience preparing tenders, technical proposals, system‑level preliminary designs, and supporting commercial bid submissions.

Educational Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (BE/ME) in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Power Electronics, or a related discipline.

Professional Experience

• 5–15 years of relevant industry experience in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), renewable energy, power electronics, grid integration, or utility‑scale energy storage solutions.
