Job summary

Exxon Mobil Bengaluru invites a Process Control Applications Engineer - Advanced to provide technical leadership across ExxonMobil Companies by sustaining and implementing base-level controls and advanced process control (APC) applications.

Focus is on independent project execution, optimization, and deploying DMC and RTO models for complex processing units, in collaboration with operations, maintenance, process engineering, and IT teams to meet safety and performance goals.

Qualifications

• Experience applying Real Time Optimization (RTO) in processing environments.
• Proficiency in MPC and advanced control strategies for industrial processes.
• Ability to lead calibration, validation, and deployment of control models.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement advanced control strategies, including MPC and multivariable control.
• Lead small to medium-scale control system projects with defined scope, schedule, and quality objectives.
• Analyze process data to identify inefficiencies, troubleshoot performance gaps, and propose data-driven optimizations.
• Collaborate with operations, maintenance, process engineering, and IT to align control with business goals.
• Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements in all control activities.
• Develop, validate, and deploy DMC controllers and RTO models for complex units.
• Lead plant tests, step-testing, model identification, tuning, and commissioning.
• Optimize performance via constraint management and economic objectives.
• Interface with operating personnel to monitor and address concerns.

Job Role Description

The Process Control Applications Engineer - Advanced is responsible for providing technical leadership across all ExxonMobil Companies through leading the sustainment and implementation of both base-level controls and advanced process control (APC) applications

Job Role Responsibilities

• Design and implement advanced control strategies, including PID tuning, model‑predictive control (MPC), and multivariable control applications
• Lead and execute small to medium‑scale control system projects, ensuring scope, schedule, and quality objectives are met
• Analyze process operating data to identify inefficiencies, troubleshoot performance gaps, and recommend data‑driven optimization solutions
• Collaborate closely with operations, maintenance, process engineering, and IT teams to align control strategies with business and operational goals
• Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements in all control applications and project activities
• Develop, validate, and deploy DMC controllers and real‑time optimization (RTO) models for complex processing units
• Lead plant‑testing activities, including step‑testing, dynamic model identification, controller tuning, and commissioning
• Optimize process performance through constraint management, economic objective functions, and advanced optimization methods
• Interface with operating personnel to monitor controller performance, address operational concerns, and drive operator engagement and acceptance
• Integrate DMC and RTO applications with planning, scheduling, and plant information systems to enhance end‑to‑end optimization
• Apply advanced control theory, dynamic modeling, and simulation tools to improve unit reliability and profitability
• Utilize project‑management methodologies to coordinate tasks, manage timelines, and communicate effectively across functional groups
