Job summary

ExxonMobil is seeking qualified individuals for Subsea Controls Engineering based in Bengaluru. The role involves providing technical support and advisory services for subsea controls, cause & effects, interlocks, and distribution systems across a global asset portfolio.

You will develop design and operating criteria for diverse developments and work with a global team. The position requires a B.Tech./M.Tech in a relevant engineering field, 3–13 years of subsea experience, and strong English

Qualifications

  • B.Tech or M.Tech in Subsea, Offshore, Mechanical, Aerospace, Instrumentation & Control or Chemical Engineering with GPA 7.0+.
  • 3–13 years’ experience in subsea design or operations with emphasis on subsea controls (topsides equipment).
  • Demonstrated expertise in Cause & Effects, interlock logic, alarms, and hydraulic/chemical systems.
  • Willing to travel internationally (<10%).
  • Strong English communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop subsea controls design and operating criteria for large-scale deepwater projects.
  • Support concepts through commissioning and start-up phases.
  • Lead evaluations of control philosophies and risk assessments.
  • Mentor junior engineers and interface with mult disciplinary teams.

What role you will play in our team

ExxonMobil is seeking qualified and experienced individuals to provide Subsea Controls Engineering technical support and expertise to its oil and gas development projects and production operations. The candidate would be part of ExxonMobil’s Subsea team in ExxonMobil Technology and Engineering Company, working out of ExxonMobil’s Bangalore Campus (Prestige Shantiniketan Whitefield) in India. The candidate would be responsible for providing corporate-wide technical and advisory support in the areas of subsea controls (including topsides controls equipment), cause and effects, interlocks, and electro/hydraulic distribution. Responsibilities will include developing and applying design and operating criteria for ExxonMobil’s diverse, global portfolio of assets, new developments, and industry-led initiatives.

What you will do
  • Develop, specify, and apply subsea controls design / operating criteria for wide variety of activities, developments, and operations, i.e. large-scale deepwater capital projects, R&D programs, offshore installation activities, and low carbon solutions opportunities
  • Involvement in various subsea project support efforts from concept evaluation and selection to commissioning and start up
  • Evaluate the strengths and shortcomings inherent in different controls design philosophies
  • Participate in risk assessments, root cause failure analyses, technology evaluations/selections, and offshore installation of subsea hardware
  • Develop and carry out procedures for FAT, EFAT, SIT, and pre-loadout of subsea hardware and software
  • Participate in subsea industry activities
  • Lead revision to company standards and/or industry practices
  • Support subsea operations issue identification and resolution efforts
  • Interface with people from different disciplines (e.g. marine, risers, pipelines, flow assurance) to align on work scopes and work products
  • Interface with suppliers, contractors, and other third parties to ensure work products are in alignment with ExxonMobil expectations
  • Provide management with sound recommendations and context for subsea controls design philosophies and strategic contracting decisions
  • Monitor and provide engineering oversight of third party engineering contractors and service providers to various Business Units
  • Steward ExxonMobil’s subsea software and tools, including internal subsea controls design/selection guides
  • Mentor and guide less experienced engineers in the subsea discipline
About You

Skills and Qualifications

  • B.Tech. or M.Tech. degree in Subsea, Offshore, Mechanical, Aerospace, Instrumentation & Control or Chemical Engineering or related disciplines with minimum GPA 7.0
  • 3 to 13 years’ experience in subsea design or operations with expertise in subsea controls, with emphasis on topsides controls (equipment e.g. MCS, HPU, EPU) and Subsea Controls (e.g. equipmentSCM, UTA, SDU, Flying Leads)
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing and evaluating Subsea Cause & Effects, interlock logic, alarm systems, and hydraulic and chemical system performance
  • Working knowledge of subsea controls equipment, including topsides hardware/software, subsea/downhole instruments, umbilicals, and electric/hydraulic/optic distribution systems. Working knowledge of the subsea equipment being controlled (e.g. subsea trees and manifolds), as well as qualification, testing, and installation methods.
  • Familiar with typical equipment and component selection drivers & tradeoffs, failure modes and demonstrated ability to diagnose the problem
  • Working knowledge of applying subsea engineering codes & standards, such as API 17A, 17E, 17F, 17H, 17S, 17Y 17TR9 and other relevant API, ISO, and ASME standards
  • Demonstrated familiarity with a typical subsea system including general layout, process flow and chemical distribution, types of subsea control systems, and topside systems/interfaces
  • Familiarity with Subsea Production System Hardware (Tree and Manifold)
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally as per business needs (<10%)
  • Strong listening, verbal & written communication skills in English
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills with ability to mentor others and work with globally diverse business teams
  • Flexible to work in shifts 1.30 PM – 10.30 PM IST
