Job summary

Annapurna Tech Universe Private Limited is seeking an experienced Backend Architect to design scalable, secure microservices-based systems on AWS. You will lead backend development, define API standards, and promote clean architecture and DDD practices.

Ideal candidates have 8+ years in backend engineering with strong Java/Spring Boot credentials, expertise in distributed systems, RESTful APIs, and cloud-native design.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of backend engineering experience, including leading roles.
• Strong expertise in Java and Spring Boot.
• Hands-on with microservices, distributed systems, RESTful APIs, and messaging.
• Solid knowledge of AWS cloud architecture and cost/performance optimization.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases; security and compliance focus.

Responsibilities

• Design scalable, secure, and fault-tolerant backend architectures.
• Provide technical leadership for backend development and API standards.
• Architect cloud solutions on AWS and collaborate with DevOps on CI/CD and deployments.
• Ensure RBI IT Framework, DPDP Act, CERT-In guidelines compliance and security audits.
• Lead observability, logging, monitoring, and incident response improvements.
• Mentor engineers and promote architectural governance across teams.

Job description

Role & responsibilities

1. Architecture & System Design

• Design scalable, secure, and fault-tolerant microservices-based backend architectures.
• Prepare and maintain HLD, LLD, sequence diagrams, data flows, and deployment architecture.
• Define non-functional requirements (performance, scalability, availability, security, and reliability).
• Establish architecture standards and drive technology selection.

2. Backend Engineering Leadership

• Provide technical leadership for Java/Spring Boot backend development.
• Define API standards, versioning, documentation, and backward compatibility.
• Promote Clean Architecture, Domain-Driven Design (DDD), and coding best practices.
• Review architecture, design, and critical code changes.

3. Cloud & Infrastructure

• Architect backend solutions on AWS (EC2, ECS/EKS, RDS/Aurora, S3, CloudFront, SQS/SNS, Kafka/MSK, Redis/ElastiCache).
• Design high-availability, auto-scaling, and disaster recovery solutions.
• Collaborate with DevOps on CI/CD, Blue-Green/Canary deployments, and rollback strategies.
• Optimize cloud infrastructure for performance and cost efficiency.

4. Security & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with RBI IT Framework, DPDP Act, and CERT-In guidelines.
• Implement secure authentication, authorization, encryption, and secrets management.
• Participate in security audits, risk assessments, and threat modeling.

5. Observability & Reliability

• Define logging, monitoring, and alerting frameworks using CloudWatch, ELK, or similar tools.
• Establish SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets for critical services.
• Lead production incident RCA and implement preventive improvements.

6. Collaboration & Mentorship

• Partner with Product, Frontend, Mobile, and DevOps teams to deliver scalable backend solutions.
• Mentor backend engineers and drive engineering excellence.
• Promote architectural governance and continuous improvement across teams.

Preferred candidate profile

• 8+ years of backend engineering experience, including 3+ years as a Solution Architect or Tech Lead.
• Strong expertise in Java and Spring Boot (or equivalent backend technologies).
• Hands-on experience with microservices, distributed systems, RESTful APIs, and asynchronous messaging.
• Strong knowledge of AWS cloud architecture and cloud-native application design.
• Proficiency in PostgreSQL/MySQL and NoSQL database concepts.
• Experience implementing security best practices and compliance-driven solutions.
• Domain expertise in FinTech, NBFC, Banking, or Insurance.
• Working knowledge of Kafka, Event Sourcing, and CQRS.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or CloudFormation).
• Exposure to regulatory compliance and audit requirements.
• Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills.
• Strong ownership mindset with proven leadership and mentoring experience.
