MarketEngine in Pune is seeking a senior Backend Engineer to own core server-side systems, drive architectural decisions, and set technical standards. You will partner with front-end and AI/ML teams to ship features end-to-end and ensure scalable, reliable services.

This on-site role requires 4+ years in backend development with Python/Node.js and databases such as MongoDB and PostgreSQL. You will mentor engineers, review designs, and tackle performance and scalability challenges as the platform

About the Role

We're hiring a Backend Engineer for a full-time, on-site role in Pune. You'll take ownership of core server-side systems, driving key architectural decisions and setting technical standards across the backend. Beyond building and optimizing high-performance APIs, you'll be a technical anchor for the team — mentoring engineers, reviewing designs, and making the tradeoffs that keep our platform scalable as it grows. You'll partner closely with front-end and AI/ML engineers to ship features end to end, and you'll be a go-to voice when the team hits gnarly performance or integration challenges.

This is a senior-level position — we are not considering interns, new graduates, or entry-level candidates for this role.

What You'll Do

What We're Looking For

• 4+ years of backend development experience, with deep expertise in Python, Node.js, and Express.js
• Strong hands-on experience with MongoDB and PostgreSQL at scale; Azure deployment experience strongly preferred
• Proven track record owning system architecture and leading technical decisions in production environments
• Deep understanding of object-oriented design and software design patterns
• Working knowledge of front-end development to collaborate effectively across disciplines
• Experience mentoring engineers or leading technical initiatives
• Comfort operating with high autonomy in a fast-paced, mission-driven startup
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
