Job summary

ASCENRA TECHNOLOGIES is hiring a Backend Engineer I for a hybrid, full-time role in Uttar Pradesh. You will work with a senior engineer to build backend services, start with well-scoped tasks, and progressively take on more responsibility with real users.

You will gain experience with distributed systems, real-world data modelling, and a clear path toward Senior Software Engineer. The position emphasizes writing tests, code quality, and hands-on product development in a collaborative team.

Qualifications

1 year of professional backend experience in Node.js/TypeScript, Go, Java or Python
Working SQL: model a small schema, write joins, explain slow queries
REST APIs and HTTP as a protocol
Git in a team setting and writing tests without being asked twice
Solid CS fundamentals — data structures, complexity, tradeoffs

Responsibilities

API endpoints and services — real ones, in production, reviewed properly before they go there
Tests, unit and integration, treated as part of the work
Consent lifecycle and ledger features — notice, grant, review, withdrawal — under guidance
Data access and event handlers: PostgreSQL queries and Kafka consumers
Code review, both sides of it — reading other people's code carefully

The work

What you'll actually do

API endpoints and services — real ones, in production, reviewed properly before they go there
Tests, unit and integration, treated as part of the work rather than a chore after it
Consent lifecycle and ledger features — notice, grant, review, withdrawal — under guidance to start with
Data access and event handlers: PostgreSQL queries and Kafka consumers, which is how you learn what idempotency means
Code review, both sides of it — reading other people's code carefully is most of how engineers get better in year two

What we will teach you

What it means to build software where a mistake has consequences outside the company

Minimum qualification

A Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
1 year of professional backend experience in Node.js/TypeScript, Go, Java or Python — a strong internship plus substantial personal projects counts
Working SQL: you can model a small schema, write a join you understand, and explain why a query is slow
Familiarity with REST APIs and HTTP as a protocol rather than a library call
Git in a team setting, and the habit of writing tests without being asked twice
Solid computer-science fundamentals — data structures, complexity, and reasoning about tradeoffs

Preferred

Any exposure to AWS, Kafka or Redis, even from a side project
An internship, open-source contribution, or a project you can walk us through and defend
Anything you have written about your own work — a README worth reading counts
