Job summary

METRO/MAKRO is seeking a seasoned Java software engineer to join our product teams in Pune. You will participate in all stages of software development, craft robust services, and help scale deployments in a cloud-first environment.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and interact with clients to tailor solutions. Ideal candidates have 7+ years of Java experience, strong Spring expertise, and hands-on work with Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and GCP.

Qualifications

• Java programming with 7+ years of experience and a passion for automating tests and deployments using Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and IaC with Terraform.
• Proficient in SQL and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL and Cassandra).
• Strong experience with Spring framework.
• Fluent in English (written and spoken).

Responsibilities

• Collaborate in a cross-functional product team to deliver product functionalities and support.
• Involve in all phases of software engineering from inception to deployment and operations.
• Develop high-quality code following best practices and clean-code principles.
• Advocate for improvements to product quality, security and performance.
• Collaborate with engineers across infrastructure to design and launch new features.
• Interact with clients to understand needs and advise on solutions.

Job Description

Your Responsibilities:

• Collaborating in a cross functional product team and with other teams on solving customer problems by delivering product functionalities and support;
• Being involved in all phases of software engineering, from inception to coding, testing, delivery and operation;
• Developing high quality code that follows best practices and clean code principles;
• Advocate for improvements to product quality, security and performance;
• Collaborating with other engineers or team members on various layers of the infrastructure, in order to design and launch new features;
• Interacting with the client in order to understand and characterize their needs and advise them if necessary.

Qualifications

Required key competencies and qualifications:

• You have profound knowledge in programming language such as Java (7+ years of experience) as well as enthusiasm for automating and automatically scaling tests and deployments (with Docker and Kubernetes)
• You have fun solving complex business and technical problems and you want to work in a team that shares this ambition with you
• You have years of experience with GCP and knowledge of IaC (Terraform)
• You want to develop yourself constantly and you love to make our digital world a little bit better every day
• You are interested in splitting large projects into small, manageable subprojects with microservices
• You have experience with SQL and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL and Cassandra)
• You have years experience with Spring.
• You have security in mind when designing an application

• You are able to communicate fluently in English (written and verbal).
