Job summary

Medicca Press is seeking an experienced backend engineer to design and build scalable backend services. You will develop secure, high-throughput applications and robust APIs, while optimizing databases and ensuring system reliability across distributed architectures.

Responsibilities include leading performance improvements, implementing security best practices, and mentoring junior engineers within an agile team.

Qualifications

• Backend development experience with modern languages and frameworks.
• Experience designing and consuming RESTful and GraphQL APIs.
• Strong database design and query optimization skills.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms and container orchestration.
• Knowledge of distributed systems and design patterns.

• Design, build, and maintain robust RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs for frontend systems and third‑party consumers.
• Design, optimize, and maintain relational (SQL) and non-relational (NoSQL) database schemas.
• Architect microservices and distributed systems that scale to heavy traffic and concurrent requests.
• Enforce engineering standards through code reviews, tests, and CI/CD checks.
• Monitor production systems, diagnose issues, and lead incident response with minimal downtime.
• Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation and mentor teammates.

1. Backend Application Development

• Architect, develop, and maintain secure, high-throughput backend applications and core business logic.
• Write reusable, modular, testable, and clean code aligned with modern software design principles and OOP patterns.

2. API & Integration Management

• Design, build, and maintain robust, well-documented RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs for frontend systems and third‑party consumers.
• Lead seamless integrations with third‑party web services, payment gateways, and external APIs.

3. Database Management

• Design, optimize, and maintain relational (SQL) and non‑relational (NoSQL) database schemas.
• Optimize complex queries, indexes, and stored procedures for high performance and low latency; execute effective caching strategies using tools like Redis.

4. System Performance & Scalability

• Architect microservices and distributed systems that comfortably scale to handle heavy traffic loads and concurrent requests.
• Continuously monitor, profile, and eliminate system bottlenecks to keep server response times and resource utilization low.

5. Code Quality & Security

• Enforce engineering standards through strict code reviews, automated unit/integration testing, and CI/CD automated checks.
• Implement robust security best practices (OWASP standards, OAuth2, JWT, data encryption, input validation) across all service endpoints.

6. Production Support & Issue Resolution

• Monitor production systems, configure health metrics/alerts, and proactively identify system errors.
• Lead fast incident responses, conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and resolve critical bugs/outages with minimal business downtime.

7. Documentation & Knowledge Sharing

• Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including system architecture diagrams, database schemas, and API documentation.
• Mentor junior and mid‑level developers, conduct technical sharing sessions, and foster continuous learning within the team.
