Job summary

Third Wave Coffee is seeking a Backend Developer with 3-4 years of hands-on experience to design, build, and optimize production-grade backend systems powering our services.

You will work on APIs, databases, and integrations, primarily using Java/Spring Boot or Node.js/NestJS, with a strong focus on reliability, performance, and clean-code practices. Collaborate across Product, Frontend, QA, and DevOps to ship features end-to-end, monitor production, and contribute to documentation.

Qualifications

• 3-4 years of hands-on backend development experience in production environments.
• Strong practical experience with Java/Spring Boot and/or Node.js/NestJS.
• Good understanding of OOP, SOLID principles, design patterns, and clean-code practices.
• Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL and MongoDB, including queries, indexing, transactions, and performance optimisation.
• Strong understanding of REST APIs, HTTP protocols, and service-to-service communication.
• Experience with Git, code reviews, debugging, and release practices.
• Ability to understand existing systems, troubleshoot issues, and contribute to component-level design.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services, REST APIs, and business logic.

About the Role:

We are looking for a Backend Developer with 3-4 years of hands-on experience in building, maintaining, and optimising production-grade backend systems.

In this role, you will work across backend services powering consumer applications, admin portals, and internal dashboards. You will be responsible for developing APIs, managing databases, integrating third-party services, troubleshooting production issues, and contributing to system design and performance improvements.

We are looking for someone with strong practical knowledge of Java/Spring Boot and/or Node.js/NestJS, solid software engineering fundamentals, and a strong sense of ownership.
