Job summary

BMW TechWorks India Private Limited is seeking an AWS Python Backend Solution Architect for the Cloud Data Hub. You will design scalable, secure backend architectures and build serverless microservices using Python and AWS.

AWS Github Python Rest API AWS Glue IAM Lambda Data Engineer ETL CI/CD Pipeline Terraform Snowflake

We are seeking an experienced AWS Python Backend Solution Architect to join the Cloud Data Hub (CDH) Team, collaborating with teams in Munich and BMW TechWorks India.

The ideal candidate combines strong solution architecture capabilities with hands‑on backend engineering expertise in Python, AWS, Kafka, Terraform, and cloud‑native technologies. The role will be responsible for designing scalable, secure, resilient, and cost‑efficient backend solutions while providing technical guidance to engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Design end-to-end backend and cloud solution architectures for the CDH platform.
• Develop and maintain scalable backend services and REST APIs using Python and AWS.
• Define architecture patterns, technical standards, service interfaces, and non-functional requirements.
• Design serverless, microservices, and event‑driven solutions using AWS services such as Lambda, API Gateway, S3, DynamoDB, SQS/SNS, EventBridge, and Step Functions.
• Design and manage Kafka‑based streaming solutions for real‑time data processing and metadata orchestration.
• Develop and maintain AWS infrastructure using Terraform and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) principles.
• Design solutions for scalability, availability, resiliency, security, observability, and performance.
• Evaluate architecture and technology options considering technical feasibility, maintainability, security, and AWS cost optimization.
• Establish best practices for Python development, API design, testing, logging, error handling, and code quality.
• Support CI/CD, DevSecOps, automated testing, and deployment practices.
• Ensure solutions comply with BMW security, architecture, and cloud governance standards.
• Conduct architecture/design reviews, code reviews, technical POCs, and root‑cause analysis for complex issues.
• Identify and manage technical risks, dependencies, performance bottlenecks, and technical debt.
• Create architecture and technical documentation and promote knowledge sharing.
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to developers and collaborate with product, architecture, security, platform, and engineering teams across locations.

What should you bring along

• Expert‑level backend development experience using Python.
• Strong hands‑on experience designing solutions on AWS.
• Experience with AWS services such as Lambda, API Gateway, S3, DynamoDB, IAM, CloudWatch, SQS/SNS, EventBridge, and related cloud services.
• Strong knowledge of solution architecture, system design, microservices, serverless, APIs, and event‑driven architectures.
• Hands‑on experience with Kafka and real‑time data streaming.
• Advanced experience with Terraform and Infrastructure-as-Code.
• Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and TDD practices.
• Strong SQL skills and experience with relational and NoSQL databases.
• Experience designing distributed and large‑scale systems.
• Strong knowledge of cloud security, IAM, encryption, secrets management, and secure API design.
• Good understanding of performance, scalability, resiliency, monitoring, and observability.
• Ability to evaluate architecture trade-offs and communicate technical decisions effectively.
• Strong problem‑solving, debugging, stakeholder‑management, and communication skills.
• Ability to provide technical guidance and mentoring to engineering teams.

Must have technical skills

• Python, ideally in a cloud‑native, serverless context
• Experience with Python frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, or Django.
• Knowledge of CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, and distributed tracing.
• Experience with enterprise data platforms, data lakes, or cloud modernization initiatives.

• Understanding of AWS Well‑Architected and cloud cost‑optimization principles.

Good to have technical skills

• Experience integrating with Snowflake, Azure, or SAP systems.
• Familiarity with Glue Data Catalog, AWS Secrets Manager, or other security best practices.
• Experience building data quality monitoring dashboards or developer tooling for pipeline management.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform for managing AWS resources.
