Job Description
The Associate – Building Structures will lead and manage delivery of building structural engineering projects across a range of sectors in the ME. The role involves technical leadership, project management, client engagement, team development, and ensuring high‑quality design outputs in line with ME standards (Eurocode standards). The Associate acts as a key link between clients, project teams, and senior leadership, driving technical excellence and commercial success.
Responsibilities
- Technical Leadership & Delivery
- Lead structural design for medium to large building projects using Eurocodes and UK best practices.
- Provide high‑level technical review and approval of calculations, drawings, and reports.
- Drive innovative, safe, and sustainable design solutions.
- Ensure compliance with QA/QC procedures and project standards.
- Oversee digital engineering tools (Revit, Tekla/structural BIM workflows).
- Project Management
- Manage full project lifecycle from concept to construction.
- Develop scopes, deliverables, programmes, and fee proposals.
- Monitor project progress, budgets, risks, and change control.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary design teams (architecture, MEP, civils).
- Ensure timely delivery of design information to clients and contractors.
- Client Management & Business Development
- Build strong client relationships through consistent delivery and technical excellence.
- Represent the business in client meetings, presentations, design reviews, and workshops.
- Identify new opportunities and support bid development and proposal writing.
- Contribute to growth of the structures team through networking and thought leadership.
- Team Leadership & Development
- Mentor, coach, and develop engineers and graduates within the structures team.
- Lead resource planning, workload distribution, and team coordination.
- Promote technical knowledge sharing, CPD, and internal training.
- Support talent acquisition by participating in recruitment and interviews.
- Construction Support
- Provide timely technical responses to RFIs and contractor queries.
- Attend site inspections, technical audits, and design compliance checks.
- Support resolution of construction‑stage challenges and value engineering options.
Required Skills & Experience
- Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of structural behaviour in steel, RC, masonry, and timber.
- Proficiency in design software (ETABS, STAAD, Robot, Tekla Structural Designer, SAFE, RAM).
- Experience working in BIM‑enabled environments (Revit).
- Ability to lead technically complex projects independently.
- Qualifications
- Professional Qualifications: Chartered Engineer IStructE (highly desirable) or with ICE.
- BEng/MEng/MSc in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Typically, 15+ years of experience in building structure design and delivery.
- Proven track record of leading ME‑based multidisciplinary building projects.
- Experience with client‑facing roles and team leadership.
- Soft Skills
- Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making capability.
- Commercial awareness and understanding of project financials.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
