Job summary

Cornerstone OnDemand in Pune is hiring an Associate Software Engineer to build and support scalable backend services and data integrations. You will write production Java code, work with Spring Boot, and use AWS services in a cloud-native, event-driven environment.

You’ll collaborate with senior engineers, participate in code reviews, design discussions, and contribute to CI/CD pipelines, testing, and production issue resolution. Office-based role in Pune.

Qualifications

• 0–2 years of software development experience (incl. internships).
• Strong Java fundamentals including OO, collections, streams, and multithreading.
• Working knowledge of Spring Boot and REST API development.
• Understanding of microservices architecture and service-to-service communication.
• Hands-on with AWS services (e.g., DynamoDB, S3, SQS, SNS, Kinesis, Lambda, EC2).
• Familiarity with Git, Maven/Gradle, and CI/CD concepts (Jenkins preferred).
• Experience with Docker and containerization.
• Basic Linux/Unix commands and debugging skills.
• Good problem-solving and collaborative skills.

About the role

We are hiring an Associate Software Engineer to join Cornerstone's team in Pune (Office Based, Pune Office). You will work on building and supporting scalable backend services, data integrations, and cloud-native applications across Cornerstone.

This is a hands-on engineering role where you will write production code in Java and Spring Boot, work with AWS services, contribute to microservices and event-driven applications, and learn how to design, test, deploy, and operate software in a production environment.

You will work closely with experienced engineers, participate in code reviews and design discussions, troubleshoot application issues, and continuously improve the reliability, performance, and maintainability of the systems you build.

In this role you will...

• Develop and maintain backend services and APIs using Java and Spring Boot.
• Build scalable and maintainable REST APIs and microservices following established engineering standards.
• Work with AWS services such as DynamoDB, S3, SQS, SNS, Kinesis, Lambda, and EC2.
• Build data integrations and event-driven workflows.
• Work with Kinesis streams for processing and consuming real-time data events.
• Write clean, readable, testable, and well-documented production code.
• Develop unit and integration tests and contribute to improving automated test coverage.
• Debug application issues using logs, metrics, and traces and contribute to production issue resolution.
• Design and work with DynamoDB tables, partition keys, sort keys, indexes, and queries.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins and support automated build, test, and deployment processes.
• Work with Docker and containerized applications and gain exposure to AWS ECS/EKS environments.
• Use Git for source control and participate in pull requests, code reviews, branching, and release activities.
• Contribute to application monitoring, logging, and observability.
• Follow secure coding practices and contribute to addressing code-quality and security findings.
• Collaborate with senior engineers, QA, DevOps/SRE, and product teams to deliver features end to end.
• Participate in incident troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement activities.
• Learn and adopt engineering best practices around scalability, reliability, performance, and maintainability.

You've got what it takes if you have...

• 0–2 years of relevant software development experience, including internships or project experience.
• Good programming fundamentals and proficiency in Java.
• Working knowledge of Java 8+, including: object-oriented programming, collections, exception handling, streams and lambda expressions, and multithreading/concurrency fundamentals.
• Basic to intermediate knowledge of Spring Boot and REST API development.
• Understanding of microservices architecture and common service-to-service communication patterns.
• Hands-on or academic/project experience with AWS services, preferably DynamoDB, S3, SQS, SNS, Kinesis, Lambda, or EC2.
• Working knowledge of DynamoDB fundamentals, including partition keys, sort keys, indexes, queries, and capacity concepts.
• Basic understanding of event streaming and messaging concepts, including Kinesis, SQS, or SNS.
• Familiarity with Git and standard software development workflows.
• Exposure to Maven or Gradle build tools.
• Basic understanding of CI/CD concepts, preferably Jenkins or an equivalent tool.
• Familiarity with Docker and containerization.
• Basic understanding of Linux/Unix commands and application troubleshooting.
• Good understanding of software development fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, design principles, and debugging.
• Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn new technologies.
• Good communication and collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Experience building applications using Java + Spring Boot through internships, academic projects, or previous employment.
• Hands-on experience with DynamoDB, SQS, SNS, Kinesis, Lambda, or S3.
• Exposure to AWS ECS/EKS or Kubernetes.
• Experience developing event-driven and asynchronous applications.
• Familiarity with Kinesis Data Streams and stream-processing concepts.
• Familiarity with Redis, Kafka, RabbitMQ, or other messaging technologies.
• Exposure to CloudWatch, ELK, Splunk, or other application monitoring tools.
• Understanding of Terraform, CloudFormation, or Helm.
• Familiarity with API documentation tools such as Swagger/OpenAPI.
• Exposure to application security concepts, SAST/DAST, dependency scanning, and secrets management.
• AWS certification such as AWS Cloud Practitioner or Solutions Architect Associate.
• Exposure to AI/ML, Generative AI, or AWS Bedrock is a plus.
