Job summary

Nature Portfolio seeks an Associate or Senior Editor for Sustainable Materials Chemistry to join our editorial team. The role covers New Delhi or Pune as part of a hybrid arrangement, with potential locations in Shanghai, Beijing, Nanjing as well.

It is a full-time editorial position within Nature Portfolio Open Access journals. You will handle manuscripts, coordinate peer review, and work with the Editorial Board to shape coverage in sustainable materials chemistry.

Qualifications

• PhD (or equivalent) in a field related to materials chemistry.
• Additional research experience is valuable but not necessary.
• Excellent communication and fluency in English (written and spoken).
• Ability to travel and meet scientists worldwide and engage with the global community.

Responsibilities

• Handling original research papers and working with editors on all editorial aspects.
• Making well-reasoned editorial decisions on submitted manuscripts.

About The Role

Do you love science but feel that a career at the bench isn’t enough to sate your desire to learn more about the natural world? Do you enjoy reading papers outside your chosen area of research? If the answer is ‘yes’ to any or all of these questions, you could be the person we’re looking for to join the editorial team of a Nature Portfolio Open Access journal covering the area of sustainable chemistry.

We’re seeking an editor with a critical eye, a deep understanding of their subject and interests beyond, and who can think on their feet. We are looking for a candidate with experience in sustainable chemistry, with a particular focus on materials chemistry or sustainable materials. A large part of the role will be working alongside the journal’s Editorial Board.

Role Responsibilities

• Handling original research papers and working closely with other editors on all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection and overseeing peer review.
• Making well-reasoned editorial decisions on submitted manuscripts in the light of expert advice.
• Determining the representation of their subject in the journal.
• Liaising extensively with editors at other journals in the Nature family and with experts in the international scientific community.
• Engaging with our external editorial board- guiding and assisting external editors with the tasks listed above, as well as recruitment and training of new board members.
• Attending conferences and visiting research institutions.
• Commission and edit Reviews and write Editorials.

Experience, Skills & Qualifications

• A PhD (or equivalent) in a field related to materials chemistry. This could include but is not limited to materials synthesis, characterization and applications. Sustainable materials chemistry or materials for environmental applications would be an advantage. However, we are open to considering outstanding applicants from other sustainable chemistry backgrounds too.
• Additional research experience is valuable but not necessary.
• A thorough understanding of recent trends and developments in the field is essential. Scientific Comprehension, Decision Quality, Critical Scientific Evaluation

This role can be located in our Shanghai, Beijing, Nanjing, New Delhi, or Pune office. Internal candidates in other journal editorial hubs are also welcome to apply. Editorial experience is not required, although applicants with significant editorial experience are encouraged to apply and will potentially be considered for Senior Editor positions.
