Job summary

Springer Nature is seeking an Associate or Senior Editor for Nature Communications (Polymer Materials) to manage manuscript handling, peer review, and editorial decisions across the polymer field. The role supports editors across journals and engages with researchers globally in a hybrid work setting.

You will assess novelty, context, and implications of submissions, travel to meet scientists, and contribute to shaping coverage in Nature Communications.

Qualifications

• PhD in polymer chemistry with a focus on polymer synthesis, polymer materials or polymer processing.
• Some postdoctoral research experience is preferred but not essential.
• Strong understanding of fundamental concepts and current trends in the field.

Responsibilities

• Handling original research papers and working closely with editors on all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection and overseeing peer review.
• Making well-reasoned editorial decisions on submitted manuscripts in light of expert advice.
• Determining the representation of their subject in the journal.
• Liaising extensively with editors at other journals in the Nature family and with experts in the international scientific community.
• Attending conferences and visiting research institutions.

Experience, Skills & Qualifications:

• A PhD (or equivalent) in polymer chemistry with a focus on polymer synthesis, polymer materials or polymer processing.
• Some postdoctoral research experience is preferred but not essential. A thorough understanding of the fundamentals of the subject is essential.
