Job summary

Pfizer Inc. in Visakhapatnam seeks an Instrumentation & Automation Maintenance engineer to lead maintenance and reliability initiatives for manufacturing lines.

You will ensure instrument availability and drive improvements in automation systems, contributing to GMP-compliant operations. The role requires experience with RCFA, FMEA, and process automation, plus strong communication skills and MS Excel proficiency.

Qualifications

• Experience with RCFA, FMEA, and risk-based maintenance.
• Strong knowledge of GMP and GxP in manufacturing.

Responsibilities

• Lead preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance for instrumentation and automation.
• Ensure reliable operation of pressure, temperature, flow, and control valves.
• Support PLC, DCS, SCADA, and filling line troubleshooting.
• Troubleshoot and resolve instrumentation/automation issues affecting production.

What You Will Achieve

Instrumentation & Automation Maintenance

• Lead preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance activities for instrumentation and automation systems.
• Ensure reliable operation of instruments including pressure, temperature, flow, level transmitters, analyzers, and control valves.
• Support and maintain PLC, DCS, SCADA, and Filling Line troubleshooting.
• Troubleshoot and resolve instrumentation and automation issues affecting production.

Reliability & Continuous Improvement

• Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for recurring failures.
• Implement reliability improvement initiatives.
• Drive automation upgrades and digitalization projects.
• Support energy-saving and cost optimization programs.

• Instrument and Automation Availability/Uptime
• Audit Observations Related to Instrumentation
• MTBF and MTTR Performance
• Maintenance Schedule Compliance
• Production Downtime Reduction

Here Is What You Need (Minimum Requirements)

• High school diploma (or equivalent) with 8+ years of experience or associate's degree with 6+ years of experience or BA/BS with 2+ years of experience or MBA/MS with any years of relevant experience
• Experience with Root Cause Failure Analysis, Equipment Criticality Ranking, PM/PdM optimization, and/or Failure Modes and Effects Analysis
• Experience with process automation systems
• Strong knowledge and understanding of Current Good Manufacturing Practices (part of GxP)
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Working knowledge of MS Excel
• Ability to manage complex issues and foster consensus among teams

• Experience in the pharmaceutical sector
• Proficiency in technical writing and document reviews
• Knowledge of contemporary technologies and best aseptic practices
• Proactive approach to promoting safety within the workplace
• Experience using common AI tools, including generative technologies such as ChatGPT or Microsoft Copilot, to support problem solving and enhance productivity. Demonstrated curiosity for exploring how these tools can improve outcomes and understanding of responsible AI practices, includingrisk management and ethical use
