Withum’s Tax Services Group is made up of a brilliant team of tax specialists that work to ensure tax reporting obligations are met in an accurate and timely manner and minimize or defer the payment of taxes. Their comprehensive understanding of international, US federal, state, and local regulations, counting our affiliation with HLB international, allows them to help develop economical tax strategies anywhere. Their services include Business, Individual, State & Local tax, R&D Tax Credit, as well as International and Private Client services.
How You’ll Spend Your Time:
- Reviewing small, medium & complex 990 & 990‑T Tax Returns and managing non‑profit organization work schedules, understanding the main form 990, its reporting structure, and having basic knowledge of 990 schedules.
- Reviewing the 12 sections of Form 990's main form.
- Reviewing deadlines, extensions and penalties pertaining to Form 990 and the purpose of the 16 schedules associated with Form 990.
- Reviewing the implications to Form 990 from the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.
- Managing end-to-end tax compliance. Responsible for completing all assigned tasks accurately and within the defined processing time frame.
- Reviewing the Form 990 extensively: importance of non‑profit sector, purpose of Form 990, who must file, Form 990 series, organizations not required to file, accounting periods, deadlines, extensions, penalties for failure to file.
- Reviewing the implications for Tax‑Exempt Organization & calculation of Unrelated Business Income Tax (UBIT).
- Reviewing the Form 990 main forms and 16 schedules and common errors.
- Reviewing audit financials like income statement and balance sheet. Ability to screen the financials, identify missing open items, and request relevant tax information and documentation for accurate reporting.
- Excellent communication skills to drive engagement and close interactions with both India & US leadership.
- Well‑versed in standard technology & come up with innovative ideas of thinking, strategy planning and managing the workload.
- Ability to interact with all levels of internal staff and senior team members and manage team in complex situations.
- Must process with excellent tax research skills and balanced allocation of work to team members.
- Guide the team in understanding various tax forms and conduct training & brainstorming knowledge sessions.
- Directly manage teams of analysts, support in process implementation, staffing and new hire training.
- Coach and develop junior & senior team members on the concepts of 990 tax compliance.
- Develop junior/senior team members for next roles in the hierarchy and should be leading and managing engagements independently.
- Quality of process improvements & team management.
- Attention to detail and documentation, adherence to turnaround and statutory timelines.
- Excellent communication skills: clear oral and written skills; effective questioning, active listening.
- Excellent interpersonal skills: influencing, collaborating, networking, able to work effectively in virtual international and cross‑functional teams.
Requirements
- Experience: 5+ years in 990 or 990‑T non‑profit tax.
- Good communication and drafting skills with a work‑based demonstration of affinity for pursuing a career in customs matters.
