Job summary

WSP in India is seeking a geotechnical engineer to lead and contribute to complex ground engineering assignments. The role requires delivering technically sound reports, coordinating with specialists and clients across sectors, and managing project resources to ensure best‑value outcomes.

The successful candidate will mentor junior staff, support in client liaison and consultants, and contribute to quality control and construction‑phase activities, aligning with Eurocode and global design

  • Understanding client requirements and influencing contract specifications.
  • Experience leading or contributing to delivery teams on short-to-medium projects.
  • Excellent report-writing and client liaison skills.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Develop professional and technically competent reports; liaise with specialists and clients across all sectors to provide industry‑leading, best‑value services.
  • Effectively manage and deliver project work.
  • Assist in managing team resources and allocating appropriate project resources.
  • Manage, motivate, mentor, and develop professional staff.
  • Provide support in all aspects of project delivery, including client liaison, contractors and sub‑consultants, public and statutory body consultation, quality control, and specialist management.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Technical expertise in geotechnical engineering with a demonstrable understanding of underlying principles.
  • Design skills for commonly adopted retaining wall, foundation, and slope stabilisation solutions.
  • Consultancy experience with good commercial awareness and strong client & contractor relationships.
  • Chartered or near‑chartered professional qualification.
  • Experience delivering geotechnical projects and preparing reports to a high technical level.
  • Understanding of client requirements and ability to influence contract specifications.
  • Experience leading or being part of effective delivery teams that manage short‑to‑medium term projects from inception to construction.
  • Excellent report‑writing and client liaison skills.
  • Proven experience undertaking and managing geotechnical desk studies; designing, procuring & supervising Ground Investigations (GIs); checking GIs and Geotechnical Design Reports in accordance with Eurocode 7 Part 1.
  • Working knowledge of Eurocode 7, UK annex design codes, ground investigation & construction contracts, and Design Manual for Roads and Bridges CD622 and CS641.
  • Familiarity with and ability to interrogate a wide range of geotechnical software for design of civil engineering projects, including deep & shallow foundations, pile group analysis, embedded & gravity retaining walls, earthworks/slope stability, and reinforced earthworks.
  • Skills to check and critically evaluate others’ work (drawings, calculations, reports) with a proven track record.
